He was a good friend of my moms. She is just devastated by the news. My interactions with him as a younger man stimulated my interest in reading all types of books.
He really captured the land we call home in his stories.

I consider New Mexico my adopted home state. Lived there 12 years (Silver City) before family considerations prompted my move. Hillerman captured a part of the Southwest I was not able to explore and I appreciate him.
Hillerman is not only a readable writer, but a re-readable story teller. I have most of his novels in my cabinet. Think I’ll dig them out.
