Remains of a temple complex dedicated to the cult of Isis and Osiris were discovered in the Paleokastro region in Pomorie.
The temple dates back from the second century A.C., announced Burgasinfo.
The building was built on the grounds of an ancient Thracian pagan temple, claim the archaeologists.
"There are many temples in Bulgaria, connected to Isis and Osiris, but this is the first temple complex, discovered through the means of archaeology", explains Sergey Torbanov, leader of the diggings.
During this season the main street in Anhialo was also discovered. The site of the diggings is put under security.
The artifacts, found during the working process, will be exhibited in Pomorie State Museum.

I wish these evil geniuses would quit screwing with time references. What is "A.C."? before air conditioning?
It’s similar to D.C., but only half the time.
Ouch. That hertz.
well, dedicated to Egyptian gods, more than an Egyptian temple I’d say — unless there were emissaries from Egypt residing there!
Roman soldiers adopted various deities they encountered while on those long deployments (which often lasted years); also, conquered peoples were free to move around the Empire, and took their deities with them. The Jewish population of the world was nearly as high in Roman times as it is now, and at its peak was perhaps 15 per cent of the entire Empire’s population. :’)
One of the best preserved stories (that is, able to be reconstructed from recovered remains) that comes down from the 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius is the flight of the personnel from the temple of Isis — a bag containing all or part of the temple’s treasury was found from the last of the staff to succumb. Others from the temple (not certain how they were identified) had been overcome by the gases while fleeing.
In a way, the free and safe travel that was possible in Europe and the Middle-East under the Romans has never been duplicated
Years ago some professor noted that the Romans united under one rule lowland Scotland with Arabia. :’)
