Scott Michael Turner, 29, charged with felony animal cruelty for throwing a kitten against a wall, is sentenced to seven months in the Ramsey County Workhouse. He's also banned from possessing animals during a four-year probationary period.

Turner is also required to undergo anger management treatment and must abstain from using drugs or alcohol as part of his sentence, as part of a stayed 15-month prison sentence.

Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner was pleased with the sentence, saying that animal cruelty crimes are often a red flag for abuse to children or adults.

The St. Paul man was convicted by a jury August 8 for the May 12 incident in which he threw a neighbor's kitten against the wall during a fight with his girlfriend. His girlfriend was cat-sitting the kitten.

The kitten had to be euthanized for extensive injuries.

A bullet to the head would be more appropriate.

I have a hard time getting excited over this stuff when the media completely overlooks partial birth abortion. This is 1/1000th as bad as a partial birth abortion. Lets keep our eyes on the ball folks.

I agree that partial-birth abortions are brutal and the issue should be examined more closely. However, it doesn't excuse the fact what this psycho done to a living creature.

Before I get accused of being a animal rights nutjob, I hunted growing up and killed, grilled, and ate everything I hunted. I still believe all creatures deserve respect. We are stewards of this Earth so we should act like it.

Does that respect apply to cock roaches? How about to mice, where we choke them to death in such a ghastly way with a mouse trap. How about clubbing harp seals in Canada? You can shoot a deer and it will possibly run away from you and be in terrible pain for days.

I agree that the guy has some serious issues. I just don't see the life of a cat as being all that big a deal. Not enough to put someone in prison for seven months. It sets a bad precedent. It cannot be far away when drowning moles or setting mouse traps or setting racoon traps is considered just as bad.

I guess we have to agree to disagree.

The life of my cat is a big deal and I value it more than some crack whore getting her third abortion.

This is the WHOLE reason these slowly creeping in animal "cruelty" laws exist. Too many folks see what one moron does to some cat/dog/bird/etc and then judges it as if they actually gave one whit about that animal before it was killed, as if it was their own.

Look, I agree, this guy is a dirtbag, but I don't support putting folks in jail over animal deaths, not even cruel animal deaths. Psych screening, possibly, maybe even treatment if deemed potentially dangerous, but jailing makes no sense at all to me. And please, PLEASE! don't bring up the stupid animal cruelty/serial murderer shtick.

It's a very sad state of affairs when a "conservative" cares more for his cat than for an innocent human life. If conservatives can displace emotion that way, just imagine how whacked out the NARAL loving Dims truly are. Sigh.

I absolutely love my two dogs. But if I were ever faced with my family starving I would take the dogs out back, give them a big hug and then shoot them skin them, throw up, and then cook them and then give them to my kids and tell them I got lucky and was able to kill a wild racoon and that they are eating racoon stew.

I swear, too many people do not understand what man had to do to survive for the last 1000 years.
