Two possibilities: the LA Times' survival instinct has kicked in or they are building credibility for an aggressive McCain and/or Palin hit piece.

“It’s Official, The End Of The World Is Near—LA Times Slams Obama
LA Times ^ | September 16, 2008 | Jonah Goldberg”
It’s Johah Goldberg from National Review - must be their token, once-a-week conservative column.

Take it with a grain of salt, Jonah Goldberg is a writer for conservative National Review. The Times merely picked up the article. The LA Times has tried over the last 8 months or so to bring at least a conservative perspective from time to time.
Their new chairman is Eddy Hartenstein who started DIRECTV, he was just hired a few weeks ago. That’s a good move as well.

Obama doesn't know how to get outside his echo chamber. He talks about being bipartisan to hard-core liberals who like the words, but he hates actual deviation from the liberal line. He talks about new ideas, but he merely repackages old ones.As succinct a summary of Obama's "change" as I've read.

I saw the ad and was stunned, actually stunned. I think not sending an email as president, might be a good thing... no paper trail.
Contrast that ad with the one out now of Mac and Sarah...awsome..

That same year, Slate's Jacob Weisberg gushed that McCain was the most "cybersavvy" of all the presidential candidates that year...Weisberg, an Obama booster, now disingenuously mocks McCain as "flummoxed by that newfangled doodad, the personal computer."
Democrat National Committee shill/propagandist/flip-flopper/deceiver Jacob Weisberg?
Ping for an example.

Anyone notice how when McCain runs negative ads, it’s announced as “mud” or “dirt” by the press. But when Obama decides to start another round of negative ads, you get dozens of articles with titles about “Obama taking the gloves off” - implying he is only engaged in an honorable defense of himself.
