I think he will be a good pick.
There are no great picks out there. Every potential candidate has issues:
Romney - Morman, Rich
Pawlenty - boring
Cantor - unknown
Jindal - too young
Palin - inexperienced
Lieberman - uh, no
Ridge - pro-life community is very much against him
Portman - unknown
The best pick may be John Kaisich, but I havent’ heard much about that.
Would love FDT or Duncan Hunter.

At this point I'd rank them: Paulin, Sanford, Pawlenty... Sanford is a solid conservative and has guts, I'll grant him that. But I've seen clips of him in the media: he's horrid - at a disastrous level - in public interviews.

I disagree. What does Pawlenty bring? Nothing. He’s Dan Quayle redux.
Put Ridge on the ticket and you’ve got two Vietnam vets against two cowards who never wore the uniform. You negate Biden in PA. You appeal to Appalachia (Western PA, OH, WV, KY). You’ve got someone with executive leadership.
Yes, Ridge is on the wrong side of the abortion issue, but do you really want to see Obama as president? Nothing could be worse.

Has anyone heard anything pop up about Haley Barbour? He has both legislative and executive experience, has competently but quietly dealt with his state getting slammed by Hurricane Katrina, and would solidify the south for McCain.
The only downside I see to him is that he used to be a lobbyist, and has such a deep southern drawl that the bigoted media would have a field day. But he's effective, can be sold that way, and that's what counts.

Pawlenty being the selectee is like kissing your sister. Not very exciting. Cantor would really be a bold pick, IMO.

The defeat of Obama is not dependent on Ridge as VP.
Look at Ridge’s time in the U.S. House: nuclear freeze, anti-Contra, pro-abortion. He isn’t beloved in Pennsylvania either. He’s more of a lump than a favored son.

Word just in that Secret Service rushed from Romney’s sister’s house to Pawlenty’s sister’s house.

As long as he doesn't abide in the murder of the unborn and he and his lady like fishing then he's OK by me.
I will caution all you FReepers who say you do not want him because he is boring.
In my youth I quickly found out that those quite guys were the ones you quickly became aware of during a down and dirty bar fight.

If this rumor has merit, this Pawlenty Intrade graph will show an uptick. Pawlenty is at 22.5 right now, and the Bid and Ask is only 21 and 23 respectively.

Pawlenty is the safest choice:
1. No ads of him criticizing McCain as would be with Romney.
2. Not the 4th legislator for a country that rarely elects a legislator as with Hutchinson, Lieberman, etc.
To me it comes down to whether Pawlenty brings more in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin than Palin brings in around the country.
