What happened? This is murder. Who would do such a thing?

I hear police shot the gunman who died later.

NO we do not know. But for God's sake man, the mans body is not even cold. Can't the speculation wait.

We got mad when the libs went after Tony Snow after his death.

Might be better to offer consolations.

elcid, looks like we are going to have to wait. There were reports that a group at a Baptist conference were threatened by a man with a gun right before the murder.

He claimed to have just lost his job.

I think that is where the speculation came from that he once worked for the chairman.

The police are saying that he went to the Baptist conference after the shooting. They also said that the shooter had not employed by Gwatney and they had seen nothing so far to indicate that the two knew each other. He may have just been crazy. Who knows? We'll hear more later but may never know why this happened.

It is unfortunate someone would choose to handle anger/resentment/dissatisfaction in such a manner. There are too many good things in life to enjoy to waste oneself in that way, and worse, to waste someone else's life.

Looking at Congresspedia, I see this note:

Bill Gwatney, as a superdelegate, has endorsed Hillary Clinton for President.

Next comes the Obama Hit Squad conspiracy theories I suppose.

Just horrible. My condolences to his family.

Sadly though, you know this will be turned into a political thing. Even if the killer was a card carrying Obama supporter they will say this was motivated by right wing hate, and all that usual nonsense.

CNN reports he was a friend of Bill and Hill, so it isn’t such a surprise.

I find it interesting that they have not released the name of the guy who shot the chairman.

Earlier stories indicated a 40ish white guy, so why the hush up? He's dead, no case to prejudice.

Now they are saying the "suspect" is 51. If they know his age, they obviously know his name. So why not release it? Waiting to notify next of kin? I guess it could be, but such courtesy is not generally accorded the criminal is cases like this.

Yeah, this is bad. He was a pretty young guy with a family and from what I understand he was a pretty good guy, politics aside.

No. This would be a plain old Arkansas Clintoncide:

"Gwatney supported Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination but switched his allegiance to Barack Obama when she withdrew from the race." LAT Source
