If you havent heard of it yet, you will want to check out the non-profit collaborative short film being produced by writer/director Chris Bouchard - The Hunt for Gollum. Like the name suggests, this short film is a prequel to The Lord Of The Rings, set in Middle Earth and depicts events leading up to the Fellowship of the Ring. The story follows the Heir of Isildur as he sets out to find the creature Gollum. Mr. Bouchard has just released the second trailer for the film which you can checkout at their official website or at YouTube. The film will be released as a FREE download in December 2008.

Cool. Aragorn rules!
ring-ping-worthy?
Why not just do The Hobbit?
Wow - it looks really crappy. :(
Will James Carville reprise the role? :0)
The Silmarillion
That’s in progress already.
I’m surprised it made it this far. PJ has stated previously he didn’t want fan films.
The Hobbit is being made as far as I know, this looks like some sort of horrible fan fiction.
Sweet. This guy looks more like the Aragorn I had in my minds’ eye when I read the books. I hated Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn.
I’m “Joining the Resistance”
Stockpile Ammo, Hunker Down, Network with like minded.
I got a 14. Barry doesn’t like my kind I guess.
I did not really care for Viggo’s portrayal. But what really disturbed me was the script. The whole “Aragorn doesn’t want to be king, Aragorn isn’t sure he wants to marry Arwen” thing was totally wrong. Jackson made nice movies — but his concept of Aragorn was 100% wrong.
Yep, this is some sort of fan film. PJ for sure didn’t have his hands on making this.

LOL!
Agreed.
That was one of my major beefs with Jackson’s interpretation as well.
If you can’t tell another person’s story without changing the motivations or personalities of the main characters, altering essential plot points, or changing the message of the story, you have no business “dedicating” that author’s work in a film, IMO.
Blood of Tyrants—
The hobbit is being done; this is a film being produced by a fan of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings; I’m not expecting it to be high budget, but I am expecting it to be truer to Tolkien’s story than Jackson’s high budget slap-to-Tolkien.
In Tolkien’s Leters (editted by Humphrey Carpenter), specifically, the 210th letter in the collection, Tolkien writes to Forest Ackerson concerning an attempted screenplay written, apparently, by one Mr. Zimmerman.
His remarks are not complimentary, and he goes into great detail of all the parts he finds objectionable
This wiki entry summarizes the letter: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Letter_210
but of course, it is best to read the letter ones’self, and Tolkien’s other letters, to better understand and appreciate his masterpiece. :-)
Ring Ping!! |
Anyone wishing to be added to or removed from the Ring-Ping list, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Thanks for the ping!
I’ll download it. Anything Tolkien is good for me. At least they kept the music.
