Bring them home.
The remains of four American soldiers from 1846!?!
Quick! Let’s cut a deal to free every illegal rapist/murder/criminal in a U.S. prison from South of the Border to have our precious bones returned.
(that of course, was a joke)
None of mine relatives. They fought elsewhere; and they all survived, and made it safely home.
Some marched, as part of a ‘company’ of Mormon volunteers, from Nauvoo, Illinois to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to join up; then marched (via Santa Fe) to Baja.
After the war, they then marched to San Diego and mustered out.
It was their own two feet all the way; my feet and knees salute them!
Then they then marched via San Bernardino (I've visited one of their camp sites up near Cajon Summit on I-15) back to Nauvoo in time to march to Salt Lake.
Meanwhile, on my mother's side, GGGrandma was born, an Army brat, at the Benicia Arsenal, in 1846.
Here's the book on Amazon
It was terrific. Well written and reasonable short, after reading this book you'll never think of James K. Polk the same way again.
