As part of Mozilla Corporations ongoing stability and security update process, Firefox 2.0.0.16 is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux for free download from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older.html.
We strongly recommend that all Firefox 2.x users upgrade to this latest release. If you already have Firefox 2.x, you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This update can also be applied manually by selecting Check for Updates from the Help menu.
For a list of changes and more information, please review the Firefox 2.0.0.16 Release Notes.
Note: Firefox 2.0.0.x will be maintained with security and stability updates until mid-December, 2008. All users are encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 3.
One important bit of news is that Firefox 2 will be maintained for another five months until mid-December 2008 at which time everyone should upgrade to Firefox 3
PING! to your list.
MajorGeeks.com has a 3.0.1 release of Firefox, but the Firefox/Mozilla website doesn’t have the release notes updated for it.

Firefox 3 was incompatible with my two most useful add-ons. I dumped it immediately.
That was kind of dumb. Contact the authors of the addons and ask them to fix them.
Apparently there were only security issues addressed, the same ones as for Firefox 2:

I delayed moving to Firefox 2 from Firefox 1 for the same reason; the add-ons I use were finally updated. I will wait another couple of months before I switch to ver. 3 and probably try it out first on my laptop before going to my desktop.
I had used Firefox on my mac, but I have found that I like Opera better.
add new item called extensions.checkCompatibility and make it a boolean item
set its value to false
Restart Firefox
OK, but won’t that just stop the compatibility check, without actually making the extensions compatible?
IMHO FF 2.0.0.x is just hitting its stride with all the extensions/themes/plugins I use.
The version of 3 that I have on my Linux box isn’t quite there yet.
I’m holding off on upgrading for the same reasons you are.
add new item called extensions.checkCompatibility and make it a boolean item
set its value to false
Restart Firefox
Thanks for this.
I updated to FF 3.0.1, and a couple of my extensions broke from 3.0.
I would think extension writers would know to make them compatible with 3.0.*
Wish I had as much common sense! I cheerfully downloaded and installed it this morning and now it's completely broken. I'm back to using IE. :-(
What do you mean by broken?? Were you using FF version 2 previously??
Okay, I fixed it, thanks. It’s some kind of new problem/incompatibility/interaction between Windows, Firefox and ZoneAlarm.
Whenever I accept an update or patch from either Windows or Firefox, I can’t connect to the internet afterwards. I get the message “Address not found.” ZoneLabs has a notice about it on their homepage.
Last week when a Windows security patch came in, I had to uninstall the patch to connect (the choice was either do that or shut down stealth mode on ZoneAlarm).
Now today FF 3.0.1 comes out and the same problem pops up. Shutting down Stealth Mode didn’t work this time, but completely shutting down ZoneAlarm DID work. Fortunately, after FF connected, ZA pops up with a message that a new network had been detected (i.e., my IP address had changed) and after I gave the OK to connect to it, everything worked fine. But I feel like I’m walking on a tightrope here.
Don’t think I’ll allow anymore patches or updates or anything like that on this computer again. Time to migrate everything over to my new computer and let this one retire!
There was an issue last week with a Windows XP update and Zone Alarm. Didn’t know Firefox 3 could affect it. Glad things are working.
dump the stupid Zonealarm and get the free Comodo firewall intead, or if you prefer commercial product, get Jetico(not for novice though). Both are way better at being a sole purpose firewall. I have never had any connection problems with those two.
