Boy, third degree felony assault in Minnesota has a maximum of five years in prison:

609.223 ASSAULT IN THE THIRD DEGREE. Subdivision 1. Substantial bodily harm. Whoever assaults another and inflicts substantial bodily harm may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than five years or to payment of a fine of not more than $10,000, or both.

Eight thugs can sexually assault a preteen girl, then stomp her father's head into the pavement when he tries to intervene, and receive a max sentence of five years in prison which means back on the street in two years-- assuming that they're not released early because MN has a budget crisis.

The same crime is fifteen years to life where I live.

The same crime can get you shot (legally) where I live. (Florida.)

This is a big reason why I left Cali for north Florida. CCW!
