Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, Ariz., gets ready for a ride in the pace car before the IndyCar Series Firestone Indy 200 auto race in Gladeville, Tenn., Saturday, July 12, 2008.
GLADEVILLE, Tenn. -- Cindy McCain spent her Saturday getting up close and personal with the IndyRacing League at the series' stop at the Nashville Superspeedway, taking a spin around the track in the pace car with Johnny Rutherford and checking out Danica Patrick's car in the garage.
"It was great," McCain said of her laps around the 1.33-mile concrete oval with Rutherford driving. "Oh my God."
Wearing a short-sleeved denim shirt and designer jeans with heels, the wife of likely Republican presidential nominee John McCain visited with IRL drivers during their pre-race meeting and spent time talking with Phoenix resident and 2004 Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice. She also held the Gibson guitar trophy for the winner of Saturday night's Firestone Indy 200, saying "I wish I knew how to play."
After waiting out a rain delay from a thunderstorm, McCain finally climbed into the pace car at least 30 minutes later than planned. She then walked over to the garage, stopping to take photos with a couple of fans, before going through the garage, the IRL's inspection area and even the officials' trailer. Later, she had a private chat with Patrick.
"It was a thrill for me, and she lives in Phoenix," McCain said. "It was just wonderful to meet her. I've been a huge fan of hers, and I wished her well the remainder of the year."
McCain, a racing fan who does something called drift racing with her son, planned to watch the 266-mile race from a luxury suite.
Recent Poll Taken About Cindy McCain
The Tennessean reported that most Americans don't know enough about Cindy McCain to have formed an opinion of the possible first-lady. Fifty-six percent of Americans said they had no opinion about her, according to a recent Associated Press poll.
During a June visit to southeast Asia, Cindy McCain showcase her charity work and got a close-up look at relief efforts for victims of May's devastating cyclone in Myanmar.
While visiting Asia, she blasted Myanmar's military regime and vowed to make improving human rights there a priority if she becomes America's next first lady.
Cindy McCain has made several trips to Vietnam, where her husband was shot down during the Vietnam War and held for more than five years as a prisoner of war.
Tennessee Primary, Recent Elections
In this year's Tennessee presidential primary, neither John McCain or Democratic candidate Barack Obama won the state. Mike Huckabee won the Republican side, while Hillary Clinton won for the Democrats.
Tennessee voted Republican in both the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections but went Democratic in 1992 and 1996, helping elect Bill Clinton to two terms in the Oval office.
Because America Needs To Know.
Thanx for post.BTW-i understand she was a cheerleader during her college yrs.Any pics?
She is the picture of class and elegance. And beautiful, to boot. She would be a stunning first lady. Quite a contrast to Michelle MyBelle Obama. I thought John McCain won the Tennessee primary. I guess I must have been wrong. The media never gets it wrong. (sarc)
I picture her as more of a Kentucky Derby sports fan. She is the least offensive potential first lady since Laura Bush in 2000. Kerry’s wife is a loon. Gore’s wife is a delusional busybody. Clinton’s wife is a megalomaniac. Nancy Reagan, Both Mrs. Bush’s, and Mrs McCain are classy ladies. They portrait the appropriate image of a a first lady. They have never seemed like they need medication to function normally in public.
I’ve never cared much for her or her husband. He’s a good man, I’m sure. I just don’t trust him entirely.
The only thing that endeared me to her just a bit was the other day she gave him a peck on the cheek as she left the stage and he entered. It left a little lipstick, and she giggled and wiped it off. It was a very honest, loving gesture and was very sweet.
But to wear heels to an Indy race? Come on. At least do espadrilles!
That’s a pretty nifty picture of Cindy McCain, I would say that the McCain campaign has the NASCAR vote pretty much locked up, which might be why Obama-lama-ding-dong backed off that brainstorm about sponsoring a car.

See how they do it? Its the little words that say so much. A couple of fans is supposed to be a comparison to the big crowds Mrs. Osama draws, Luxury suite means money and priviledge. And what in the world a poll and whether or not McCain won the state has nothing to do with the article but they threw it in because it is negative for McCain. I just despise the MSM.
Huh? Was the reporter looking at her ass to find the Jordache label?
Besides, who cares?
I caught that too. The “designer jeans” piece was tacky as well.
Oh well... I'll add this: Cindy should have been wearing sweats.
I recently read that Cindy McCain had helped her son(s) build a race car in which they participate in Drift Racing. I also read that she holds a racing license, so she’s no stranger to the track......even with high heels on!
Quite a contrast to Michelle Obama lama ding-dong, eh?\
I don’t think Cindy McCain is capable of taking a bad picture.
Creepy woman, not fit for First Lady. I will miss Laura.
Holy Moly! Thats alot of @$$! I bet when she has to haul @$$, she has to make two trips.
Creepy???
I ain’t voting for Juan Maverick and I am unimpressed with her courting the Open wheels Euroweenie set over NASCAR but creepy?
Initially Michelle dressed elegantly but lately she has started to wear those sleeveless dresses which do show off like she has been working out but are not proper for first lady.
I dunno. I love Laura Bush but a lot of those descriptions you two make could apply to her as well. I mean lets be honest, she does have a Stepford wife air about her.
All I know is that the very first time I saw and heard from her was during the 2000 election and I thought she was the most friendly, full-of-life, energetic and positive spokesman of all the potential First Ladies.
