The Birds, Friday the 13th, Creepshow, TRON, Footloose, Revenge of the Nerds, Rosemary's Baby. Not to mention all the TV shows they are making into movies, A-Team, Dallas, Good Times, Smurfs. It's like they just gave up trying to think of new ideas.
They either remake classic films and ruin them, or remake junk and make it junkier.
someone in hollywood needs to browse the local barnes and noble
I’d like to see TRON remade. You’ll see the then-advanced computer graphics of the old one next to what we can do now. Then remake it in another 25 years to show how primitive our current state of the art is.
There is a whole career in just writing treatments and owning an option on some property until someone else wants to make a film about it.
And if you adapt a book to the screen, your name goes on the script even if someone else later adapts the same film and throws out your adaptation (it has to do with using character names from the book).
Dune took ~15 years to get made, Vampire Lestat ~20, I Am Legend ~40 (although there were inspired near adaptations over the years)...
An A-Team movie might be good. But Smurfs? And Footloose!?
