As long as their are unanswered questions about the nature and purpose of life there will be religion. Religion, in my (and only my) opinion has precious little to do with god.

Some people believe that religion is a mental security blanket that makes living possible for most people and that it evolved for that purpose.

Yes, I read that earlier today, on a different thread-article that you posted. I thought it was too ridiculous to respond to then, but I'll respond now: The whole premise that the "idea" of religion can "evolve" reeks of Carl Jung, and I thought Jungian philosophy died a much-deserved death several decades ago. Is this a revival of it?
