One of the things I truly admire about John McCain, is his willingness to stand up for what he believes. There is a strength to his character, which is very clear to see.

If you’re on the other side of one of those issues - yes this can be infuriating. But it’s a powerful leadership quality. There’s no other candidate, I would rather have representing America in a dangerous world.

John McCain may be an SOB about some things.

But he’s OUR SOB. :)

The most serious issue today for the whole world, is this Third World War that is raging in Iraq. It is a war of destiny. The whole world is watching this war and it will end in victory and glory or misery and humiliation. The war is for you or for us to win. If we win it, it means your defeat and disgrace forever. Failure in Iraq is the failure of the United States. Your defeat in Iraq will mean defeat in all your wars. - Osama bin Laden

The terrorists have no illusion of the most important issue we face.

Too stupid to be funny.

Of couse our bias are what we hold dear and McStupid doesn’t need our votes, so if he decides he does he knows what he needs to do.

OTOH, some of us FReepers have heard such ridiculous blatherings from Juan McCain’s mouth over the years that we have a very healthy scepticism regarding him.

Quite frankly, I do not trust him. Neither should you.

“Good guy” isn’t going to do it for me. We’ve had a good guy in the White House for the past eight years, and the last four have been a disaster.

Sorry, at election time people say anything to get elected. That is the reason we have only their past record and past behavior as a gauge to judge them.

These speeches are written for the candidate. McCain isn’t clever enough to write a glowing speech himself.

For the most part, he is also a typical liberal on guns

“This Mindless, Paralysing Rancor. Must Come to an End.” (homerun)

So. is McCain saying he will stop his mindless, paralysing rancor?

If so we will listen, but as long as he acts in this mindless paralysing manner we have not choice but to reject him.

You pols are getting desperate, which can only mean McCain is starting to realize he needs conservatives.

BTW- the title quote is projection on McCains part about his own behaviour, telling himself outload he goofed in relation to conservatives.

I agree. The war is really the only thing I’m considering with regard to the Presidency. Sure, there’s other issues that matter to me but they’re also as much or more about Congress than anything.

If we lose the war (that is, elect Obama) there won’t be much else to discuss anyway. We won’t have time. The war will be here.

Oh goody!

He announced he's going to include Democrats in his administration. We can only hope that'll end as well as GWB's bipartisanship and refusal to clean out the Clintonistas from places like CIA and State.

I'll be physically ill when I pull the lever for him in November.

“This Mindless Paralyzing Rancor”

Sorry, I missed the speech, did he call out the UnAmerican Democrat Party for their behavior for the last 8 years?

Because Republicans do not fit the above description.

“One of the things I truly admire about John McCain, is his willingness to stand up for what he believes. There is a strength to his character, which is very clear to see.”

A principled stand is indeed something to be admired. However, McCain started out as a principled conservative from Arizona and morphed into Democrat light in exchange for favorable media coverage - plus he seems to take great delight in smacking around conservatives by embracing idiocy such as “global warming”.

Hell, even the “global warming” crowd had the good sense to recognize the con job was up when they did the name change thing.

Something that I like about conservativism is that it realistically accepts the world as deeply flawed. Purity does not exist in politics and never will. If you aim for ideological purity and mythologize the past, you will always find the present to be unacceptable.

Now there is a great reason for sacrificing all of your principles to vote for John McCain!

Just a hint, that was sarcasm.

He may be your SOB, but he’s not mine. Our best bet is for him to pick a conservative VP and then drop dead after the inauguration.

That tells you something about his knowledge of the subject. If he knew the current data on global warming, he would have waited before jumping on board. When someone fills him in, he's going to have a big "Oh Crap" moment.

I’ll send him a fresh batch of bran muffins to help with the exchange process.
