Separate the stuff between what you think is "good" and what you think is "normal" run of the mill. Then have an appraiser come in and look over the "good" stuff. Based upon their input send the "better" stuff to auction and have a yard sale for the rest. Make sure your ML is out shopping during the yard sale. Especially if she has any emotional attachment to any of it. Order a dumpster and throw the rest away.
My ML lived with us for over 18 years. Good luck. Your wife will choose to spend time with her over you at some point. How you handle that is your business but be careful the path is full of land mines.
