Well if finally happened. My 71 year-old, life-long democrat mother, finally switched parties. This is a day I never thought would come and I'm so thankful to my brothers and sisters of this forum.
This is not *subterfuge* (wink, wink) and is completely legit. Seriously. (I just wanted to use my nic in a post) Anywho, I have seen the "OFFICIAL VOTER INFORMATION" sheet the state of Florida sent to her. Incidently, all of the incidentals like date-of-birth and registration, new party affilitation and such, are listed straight down the middle of the page, with english on the Left and spanish on the Right. Equal billing you know.
Anyway, as she had mentioned many times since I'd been a FReeper that she was "fed up with" her dems, I took lightly the prospect of her changing her lifelong affiliation with the "party of the poor," even after my almost constant bombardment of e-mails to her regarding the nefarious doings of the preposterous, leftist-liberal-marxist democrats, and the myriad assaults on America's culture and sovereignty, and the...and the.., I gotta take a breath here!
And then, low-and-behold, what should happen that she should become enlightened to the ways of the hard-core liberal, who she unabashedly followed as so many of those who would do good, do.
I just want to say thanks and that this wouldn't have been likely to happen if not for the wonderful folks here on the FRee Republic forum, and Jim Robinson. The wonderful lady who is my mother is a decendent of career steel-men, out of Pittsburgh PA. They are as hard-core union men as you'll ever see. Democrat all the way. It's hard to claw your way out of that.
Conservatism, for those who aren't born and raised into it, is a shiny new doorway to self-evident human possibilities that are only limited by our drive to succeed--and our imaginations.
Thanks JR and all FReepers!
I was a steelworker in Pa a very long time ago.
The unions and the dems policies killed that deader than disco.
No problem at all loathing most unions. And most Dems, as well.
