Yeah, that was odd. He never seemed to notice much when the van used to occasionally go off almost spontaneously. Maybe because the car is more on his level?
If so, it's much better than the Northern equivalent.
Seemed like most potlucks back home, there would be an enormous selection of weird Jello salads. Corn and carrots and peas should not be anywhere *near* Jello in my world. I'm just sayin'.
I don't much like Jello any old way, but...eeeeeww.
Peas in jello? eeeeewww is right.
Working.... After a brief respite in the form of a week's vacation, I'm back to my regular 28-8 work schedule (which is a lot like a 24-7 only crazier).
I think 28-8 involves alternate dimensions and stuff.
I’m working, really I am....
.45ACP should never be crimped, because the round headspaces on the case mouth. A tiny amount of crimp may seem harmless, but it could also bulge out the case behind the crimp enough to exceed appropriate dimensions.
Also check for any roughness in the chamber. There may be just enough to interfere with certain brands or reloads. And hand-polishing the feed ramp with some crocus cloth wrapped around a dowel never hurts. It should shine like a mirror.
Alternate dimensions and quantum theory....sounds like a story I’m writing.
Of all the stuff I ever loaded it was the .45s that gave me the most trouble. I think it must be why I liked shooting .357 so much then. .357 is a breeze since it’s a roll-crimp and there’s no question when it’s right.
But I had the toughest time getting my .45s to seat right. That taper-crimp is a bugger. Too loose and the bullet doesn’t stay put. Too tight and it won’t headspace on the case rim. Grrr.
It sounds like maybe your cases are bulging slightly? Dang, it’s been so long that I’m not getting recall, but isn’t there a full-length resize before the belling stage? Maybe there’s something not right about that making it too wide in the base, and then too tight in the chamber.
dunno.
Okay... unscrew the seater plug a turn or two, place a factory load in the station, raise the ram, and screw the plug back down till you feel resistance. This should set your seating depth. Unscrew the crimp die a turn or two. Index the load to station four, raise the ram. Turn down the crimp die until you feel resistance. This should set your crimp. You should at least be in the ball park...
winmags right, there should be no visible crimp, the case side should appear straight, but have a dia of .473, as opposed to .475 at the bottom, and .480 on the rim. What your “crimp” die does is “de-bell” the cartridge...
winmag is also right about the feed ramp... it should shine...
max load for 231 in 115gr 9mm is 5.3gr for 1150 fps... I’d start 4.3gr at 1050 fps. 3.8 gives 1000 fps, but that light a load may cause cycling problems too...
I’ve used 231 for 9mm, but prefer Unique... which is what I feed my .38/.357...
most excellent... truth be told, the accuracy excuse for handloading has pretty much evaporated... factory loads have improved light years...
It’s gonna be cheaper tho..
We’re planning to take the pistols with us and take my siblings shooting again. The four it’ll do most good will be there... sister-we-armed probably hasn’t got any good instruction since we left her, sister-who-thinks-she-is-invincible could use another lesson and the brothers are at a very impressionable age... my poor mom hates us teaching them guns and arming them but that’s her loss.
That’s an excellent recommendation. Use a factory load of the same bullet as a gauge to set the dies. Dang, that woulda’ saved me hours and much aggravation. :-)
that's the second reason fer handloadin'... and it still holds true... big time...
sounds like a good time... you and Talon are capable instructors... at least no one will come back with a couple extra holes...
I figgered that out years ago... after alotta cussin’...
only thing is, if’n you change projo’s, all bets are off...
Actually, what Not Valerie would tell you is that Nana taught her that when it’s potluck you take a whole meal. An entree, two sides, a drink and a dessert. That’s just the way it was ~done~.
I’m pretty sure that’s what my Mom did also.
heh... we always took one thing to a potluck... but then we wuz cheap bastiges...
I suspect the way our Mamas did potlucks has a lot to do with why I have to buy my underoos at Norfolk Tent and Awning...
I was gonna make a comment about that, but thanks fer doin’ it fer me...
It was about 4.2 of 231 that would not cycle the 9mm. I got some blue dot and loaded some about 7.8 should be good. We will see. I am trying various this with the .45 now.
