The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Isn’t it gorgeous out? We’ve turned off the air conditioners, turned on the attic fan and opened the windows. I hope the weather stays this cool for the next couple of days ‘cause the Andersen window contractors are coming tomorrow to replace 4 of the most problematic of our windows. I’ll still have to stain and finish ‘em but since the windows are “inserts” it’ll be a lot less surface area than if we had the entire window unit replaced.

It’s going to be a mess but worth it (keeping fingers crossed). LSA

Heh, SirKit is ruminating on your post as we chat. I’m doing some searching and printing out stuff for him while he’s sitting in his comfy chair. ;o)

SirKit is looking seriesly at the Core 2 Duo E8400 processor, and we're looking at a couple of ASUS motherboards, the P5Q Deluxe, and the P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi. Any thoughts, or other suggestions? As I said, this computer will be basically mine, and since I just bought the new Chief Architect CAD program, we wanted something that would have enough oomph to handle the files, graphics, rendering, etc easily. He also wants something on which he can run his Mathematica program without it grinding on.

He already has a case into which he can put these components; in fact, it is an Antec! But we are thinking of going ahead and moving into Vista, but getting the Ultimate, not the Home Premium. They're all shipped with the Service Packs now. That's something we'll think more about, and if he's building it himself, he can start off with the XP and see if we need to move up.

He's looking to put the box in the Foyer closet, and run my keyboard and mouse with Bluetooth, giving me an external CD and DVD player so I can run those without having to go to the box to do that. He wants to keep the noise down, at my desk, which is in the den with the TV, and he'd also like to set it up so that we could use the TV as another monitor, if we want to do so. Also, not having that big box taking up space will be nice. He can install an opening in the closet to the unheated part of the basement to take the warm air out, and bring cooler air up to keep the closet from getting too warm, though it's likely to not be a big problem, anyway.

Oh, and we'll be looking to upgrade my monitor. I got a 17" flat panel a year ago, but having a 19" or even 22" would make it a LOT easier for me to see the CAD drawings, especially the little dimension numbers. ;o)

I'll pass this 17" one down to Joseph, so he can take it to school in August. Right now, he's still using one of the old clunker monitors in his room, but we didn't want to have to haul that sucker down to put in his dorm room. His may be the last big one that we have. We've gotten rid of them, over the years, and replaced them with the flat screens. SirKit even found a flat screen monitor that he's going to put on a swing arm under one of the new cabinets in the kitchen! We'll have this house all geeked out when we put it on the market!

I’m just now getting some buds on the Stargazer Lily that Corin sent me a couple of years ago. The daylilies from my Granny’s yard are just a little behind, so maybe I’ll see some buds on those in a couple of weeks.

Hi there... when are you planning on going to the pier?

We’re about to head out here on an errand, then we’ll be around.

Lawn mowed — yay! That was hot work, even this early. :-\

Hopefully Cisco didn’t bark last night; if he did, I apologize. I left the poor guy out. He didn’t want to come in ‘cause it was so much cooler out, and then I forgot he was out until morning. He seemed perfectly content, though happy to come in for breakfast. I didn’t hear him whine or anything, but I sleep through a lot....

I know...
Lack of a car tends to spoil your plans though.

Yup, that is anice rifle, yes indeed. You’ll be making those four shot cloverleafs at 250 & 300 meters a common place occurance before you know it.

The Sigarms556.com site is pretty interesting. Sounds like the pin replacement is about the first thing most owners do. Apparently there is a good supply now.

Yah...well...I’ve been without a car for almost as much of my adult life as I’ve had a car (moved out of the house by 18, didn’t get my license until I was almost 24), so I’m not buyin’ that excuse. ;-)

Oh - we didn’t hear him bark. :~)

If you want to come over this afternoon and sit in the shade, feel free. Come over and play with kittens! It’s got to be an oven over there. We just got two new box fans! They’ve got them for 16.99 at Ace down the road. If our dogs are out, though, watch Cisco at the door, it means the kittens are loose in the house.
