In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
cloy \KLOY\, transitive verb:
1. To weary by excess, especially of sweetness, richness, pleasure, etc.
2. To become distasteful through an excess usually of something originally pleasing.
Example sentences:
The opulence, the music, the gouty food -- all start to cloy my senses.
-- Jeffrey Tayler, "The Moscow Rave part two: I Have Payments to Make on My Mink", Atlantic, December 31, 1997
I use orange and lemon zest in the recipe and a drizzle of soured cream at the table to take away its tendency to cloy.
-- Nigel Slater, "Cream tease", The Observer, December 14, 2003
The soft Orvieto Abboccato has just enough sweetness to please but not to cloy, a friendly character that tempts one to linger over a second glass.
-- George Pandi, "Orvieto's pleasures deserve to be savored like its wine", Boston Herald, July 18,2004
Etymology:
Cloy is short for obsolete accloy, "to clog," alteration of Middle English acloien, "to lame," from Middle French encloer, "to drive a nail into," from Medieval Latin inclavare, from Latin in, "in" + clavus, "nail."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
The clicking of the rain falling on the clay cloyed my senses with clacking sounds.
we don’t accept hubris, without heaping a large ration of feces on it, in this classroom...
I always thought hubris was a European root vegetable. Like a turnip, but larger.
At least you're still regular. Vast, where's the graphic?
If she was also wearing a tennis dress, she’s from my town.
I won’t allow you to become Bob Dole. ;)
Almost a haiku! A for you.

and a fake tan.
A+ for the inventive alliteration.
this nutcake reminds me of the guy I went to highschool with who is now a woMAN.......
My photo hosting site has discontinued the service. I’m looking for another photo hosting site where I can segregate pics like the PMS Alert and other political humor in one area for linking here while having a more public area for my photo albums for marching band and football pictures.
nope, not gonna read it.......NOPE! no time for tears
Good article, very matter-of-fact. I smiled while reading it. My son tells me things he doesn’t tell his dad and tells his dad things he doesn’t tell me and I’m fine with that. I’ve taught him minimalist cooking, how to do laundry and iron, and will work on minimalist sewing before he leaves for college. I taught him to crochet when he was small and he made these giant chains with no interest in learning more. I think he was probably trying to figure out how to weaponize them.
When the Bishop is a Queen, how can you play chess?
excellent question!
He is the most self-absorbed person I’ve ever read about. I can’t think of a single nice thing to say about him. So I’ll stop there.
No, still up here in the HorrorDay Inn at Homer City, PA. Been getting to the plant at 6:00 AM, leaving 6:30 to 7:00 most evenings for a loooong shower and something at the all-you-can-eat buffet. last three weeks have been Sunday workdays too.
Then bed for another 5:00 alarm clock. Free coffee at the plant floor, but that’s seven flights of stairs up from the inside of the lube oil tank. Darn. 8<)
Internet connections are real flakely - today, I can get on line. Before? Sometimes on Sunday mornings. Most times not.
