I’ve had moments like that, too, while watching old TV shows! There was an episode of Petticoat Junction where the old uncle thought he had a license to marry people, so he performed a marriage ceremony for a young couple who were going to occupy the honeymoon suite at the Shady Rest. Well, turned out the uncle wasn’t authorized to perform marriage ceremonies after all, so the couple THOUGHT they were married, but weren’t. So everyone started trying to prevent the couple from going upstairs to their room, because if they did, they’d consummate the marriage, and they weren’t really married! Finally a real minister came over and performed the ceremony, then everyone sighed with relief and the couple was finally allowed to go upstairs.

I also recall an episode of the Dick Van Dyke show where Laura Petrie admits she lied about her age when they got married, and because of that, their marriage might not be legal in some states. Rob makes a comment like, “I might have to sleep on the couch tonight.”

Interesting that back in the ‘60s, shows like this aired. Now, a TV personality mentions that she’s going to remain a virgin until marriage, and it makes the news as something really weird and bizarre!

Yep...morals HAVE changed.

It really bothers me how most of the posters there are saying that they didn’t even get the last Newlyweds Game bit. But after all, given today’s standards, how would they?

I guess the argument going on in some of the comments is whether morals merely changed, or whether they declined. There is a big difference between those words.

Society today is over-sexed. Kids are now young as ever having sex and internet porn, reality t.v., absence of proper parenting, etc., are hugely to blame.

Furthermore, I just read that 1 in 4 girls have an STD. I was floored when I read that.
