Where Do We Go in a Post-conservative America?

What we have just witnessed was the collapse of the Reagan Conservative movement; it began right after Bush-the-Elder reneged on his No New Taxes pledge and crumbled after sputtering through eight long years in the Clinton desert only to gasp and kick fitfully on a cold, winter's evening while Bush-theYounger was off making nice with the Palestinians.

Moses has left us, even Job has thrown down his staff, all that's left is to leave the flock and line up at the trough.

If the Post-Conservative America began 17 years ago, then I’d humbly suggest we’re already there.

Where Do We Go in a Post-conservative America?

Just stay right where you are.

To the average voter, politics changes like fads and fashion. Going out of fashion is to be expected and coming back into fashion is only a matter of time.

Good question.

I am stunned by the outpouring of support for RINOs by "conservatives".

Professor, did we ever have a, quote, “conservative America,” unquote? Someone posted here last night, and I agreed with him, that Reagan’s landslides had more to do with his magnetism that drew in people who were at odds with him politically ... I cited my father and father-in-law as examples ... rather than any great desire in the electorate for the kind of conservatism that we espouse on FR. I think people who believe like we do are a minority in this country. I’m not ashamed to be in that minority, I will stand up and proclaim my principles loudly because I believe in my heart and soul that we are right. I’m just beginning to lose hope ... not to the point of ending the fight by any means, but just being realistic ... that we can sway enough people in the U.S. electorate to where we can carry the day not just by winning the presidency, but by completely turning around the nature of government in this country from top to bottom, which is the only way we are going to have that “conservative America.”

Don’t forget the 1994 Conservative Revolution.

We gave Republicans the Congress on a silver platter.

Conservatives either work hard and get involved or watch the country go left.

Excerpt:

The Republican Revolution or Revolution of ‘94 is what the Republican Party dubbed their success in the 1994 U.S. midterm elections, which resulted in a net gain of 54 seats in the House of Representatives, and a pickup of eight seats in the Senate. The day after the election, Democratic Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama changed parties, becoming a Republican.

The gains in seats in the mid-term election resulted in the Republicans gaining control of both the House and the Senate in January 1995. Republicans had not held the majority in the House for forty years, since the 83rd Congress (elected in 1952) under Republican Speaker Joseph William Martin, Jr..

Large Republican gains were made in statehouses as well when the GOP picked up twelve governor seats and 472 legislative seats. In so doing, it took control of 20 state legislatures from the Democrats. Prior to this, Republican had not held the majority of governorships since 1972. In addition, this was the first time in 50 years that the GOP controlled a majority of state legislatures.

Imagine the country as a car. From the Declaration of Independence to the Civil War the pedal was to the metal. We coasted for a while during the war. After the war we put the pedal back to the metal, but this time without a governor. That car was really flying. Then in 1890 the Sherman Anti-Trust act was implemented and our collective foot was pulled off the pedal. For the most part we have been idling up a hill since then. We’ve stepped on the gas a few times since then to keep moving, but we are quickly running out of momentum.

Very well said. Let’s work with what we have ... cause it will not be built from scratch in time.

Two years of Hillary will just about guarantee a repeat performance in 2010. ;)

The choices are not attractive, Rudi? nope, McInsane? nope, the Huckster? nope Ron Paul? pleeze, Romney.... talks the talk, walks the walk but can we trust him considering his recent "conversion"

That leaves us with: Trust Romney?

Stay home, let's the Republicans get their asses handed to them and hope the RNC will try to back a Conservative during the selection process.

Is that even legal?

Ammo up. 1776 Mark 2 may be just around the corner.

We could either be voting our conscience on Nov 7tth, or if things go badly on March 18th(SCOTUS Heller decision), we could be too busy reloading...
