Soon after their 17-year-old friend was mauled to death by a tiger at the San Francisco Zoo, the two brothers who survived the attack made a quick pact not to cooperate with the police as they rode in an ambulance to the hospital, sources told The Chronicle.
"Don't tell them what we did," paramedics heard 23-year-old Kulbir Dhaliwal tell his brother, Paul, 19.
Sources also say that the younger brother was intoxicated at the time of the incident, having used marijuana and consumed enough liquor to have a blood-alcohol level above the .08 limit for adult drivers. The older brother also had been drinking and using marijuana around the time a 350-pound Siberian tiger escaped and killed Carlos Sousa Jr., the sources said.

It's a tiger, not a cuddly puppy. Of course it was aggressive enough. That's what tigers do.
It’s not an assumption ~ there are such posts on the many threads concernng this case.
“-dont you enter a building and view the animals through glass walls?”
yes...that is what you are supposed to do.
I’m just trying to remember if it would be possible for a moron to go where they aren’t supposed to and start climbing the exhibit.
Besides the the glass barrier, there is also an 8 ft. high cement barrier.
If the tiger manages to jump the cement, it’s claws won’t grip on anything because of the glass.
It sounds like the tiger at SF had a way to grip onto something and climb over the top.
“It’s a tiger, not a cuddly puppy. Of course it was aggressive enough. That’s what tigers do.”
well golly gee...it sounds like we are in agreement.
And your point would be?.....
I’m saying there’s enough blame to go around. The zoo worker should have been more careful (this is a TIGER, remember, not a trained domestic animal), the zoo should have created more secure areas of their wild animals, and the zoo patrons should have exercized at least a modicum of personal responsibility and adult behavior. They THOUGHT they were taunting a powerful animal made helpless by the enclosure. They were fine with that, until the tiger got out and got her licks in, too. I have no use for such individuals, period. And no, I’m not a member of PETA. I just don’t like people who think it’s fun to bully those who can’t fight back—animals, children—but hardly ever anyone who can fight back, you’ll notice.
Ever watch that show about “when pets go bad?” I watched it last night. Plenty of these kinds of incidents, a lot of them elephants. Wake up folks. These animals get frustrated and ANGRY at being confined. We should not be doing it.
Ummmmmm. I understand your feelings here, but did you really think that through before you hit post?
************************************************
I wouldnt seriously use waterboarding on the brothers, but something tells me a money grab lawsuit is in the works. Maybe John Edwards can get involved and make a few bucks on this one too.
“a lot of them elephants
An elephant gone bad might be the one thing worse than a tiger gone bad.
what do you think with your experience?
Any chance these kids really were loaded into the same ambulance?
I just don’t see it.
Assuming they’re PETAs (on FR??) could be just a tad, um, wild, though. Animal lovers, yes. And I do love my critters, cats, cattle, all of ‘em. (And yes, I eat meat, some of the beef home grown.)
Any EMTs on the thread? I thought ambulances had room for one gurney only, or maybe one of them didn’t need one. Like you, I’d like to know.
Super. Let's make it a routine part of every investigation. Not only is it effective, it's quick!
Think of all the time and effort we could save on actually investigating crimes.
It certainly would be quicker to waterboard everyone on the block whenever someone gets mugged.
I'm sure there will always be someone who will confess...
Well, he couldn't get the monkeys to butt f***...
However, where you probably have the young men in mind as candidates for waterboarding, I prefer to use that on the management team.
Well, if you’re going to waterboard one group, might as well wb ‘em all. Plus all Freepers posting on these threads, so you can uncover all affiliations, PETA or otherwise.
(Yeah, that was sarcasm.)
I want that guy waterboarded Fur Shur.
The others will talk.
Nor would I. But even I have to admit it's very tempting!
I read something (need to find the article) addressing that but (IIRC) a zoo official said that wasn't possible....I'll have to try to find that article.
S.F. zoo tackles public concerns, upgrades after tiger attack
As for San Francisco, zoo director Manuel Mollinedo already has announced planned improvements to the big cat enclosure that include installing surveillance cameras, building new fences and raising the 12 1/2-foot pen wallsfound to be nearly 4 feet below the recommended height. The pen will stay closed indefinitely, but officials hope to complete safety improvements within 30 days, Singer said.
The planned renovation follows fortifications made a year ago when the same tiger, named Tatiana, reached through the cage and mauled a zookeeper during a public feeding. The zoo was found at fault in that incident, fined $18,000 and still faces a lawsuit by the keeper, Lori Komejan.
I going to withhold judgment until we find out what actually happened.
“a zoo official said that wasn’t possible....”
Those zoo officials have said alot of things that turned out to be false.
This is certainly a hard story to follow and get the facts straight.
“found to be nearly 4 feet below the recommended height.”
yes...our local zoo only has an 8 ft. wall - but that wall is surrounded by a higher glass barrier.
If the tiger jumped the cement - the paws would smack against the glass and the animal would fall right back down.
“The zoo was found at fault in that incident, fined $18,000 and still faces a lawsuit by the keeper, Lori Komejan. “
OK...so, the lawsuit is still an ongoing affair?
Someone else posted it was settled, and the keeper was at fault? (again...confusion)
