A survey of computer operating systems market share shows an uncanny resemblance to the Democrat-Republican election map from 2004. Too bad only Democrats see the Mac OS as a superior computer platform! Click on the top map below from Market Share by Net Applications or check out the results here.
Distribution of computer OSes. Darker means more Macs.

I don't see how poling the OS of users provides the location of the computer using the OS...
I think this more likely shows where the SERVERS that are being accessed are located rather than the location of the consumer computers.
And what's up with Alaska... except Mac usage?

I knew there was a reason I hated Macs.

Apple is the computer of elitists.
Democrats are elitists.
Windows is the OS of the common man.
Republicans are the common man.
It makes perfect sense.

I'm SHOCKED! Shocked I tell you... Liberals MUST use Macs more than Conservative do... PING!
No, this isn't the distribution of Kerry v. Bush voters...
its the supposed distribution of Mac users.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.

Mac users are more intelligent and sophisticated than PC users. Ask them.

I think this more likely shows where the SERVERS that are being accessed are located rather than the location of the consumer computers. It's supposed to show the location of the client rather than the server.
The geographic location of an IP address can often be determined from the netblock information at arin.net. You can enter your IP address in the whois search and see if it matches your location.

Better looking too. The fact that I have Vista must say something about my looks, which might explain my lack of a date this weekend.

My IP address says I'm in Chicago. that is because Bresnan has their IP block located in Chicago.
There is a unintended consequences in the analysis.

I suspect it may have something to do with the location of the Apple Stores as well...
Usage of Apple Macintosh by State
Apple Store Locations
Yeah, I think that might have something to do with it...
Of course those dang Vermonters are still toting Macs along with their guns and not an Apple Store in sight to hold up...
And the Nome, Alaska, Apple Store is scheduled to opened sometime next... century...

“Mac users are more intelligent and sophisticated than PC users. Ask them.”
Gad, that was beautiful.
And quite true in some cases...just as bad as some of the hyper-geeks
PC worshippers of about a decade ago!

“And Libertarians use Linux?”
Some of them are research scientist (and conservative, including
frugal in getting computer power). Got two of ‘em in my family.
I’d only say they have some “small-L” libertarian inclinations.
