I don’t have any of the newer large screen televisions. But at a pub/restaurant that I frequent, there are two large screen panel tv’s. I don’t know whether they are LCD or Plasma. While I enjoy watching them from time to time, I noticed that people on the screen seem to be shorter and fatter than they are likely to be. What is up with that? Can anyone advise me about that anomaly? Thanks :)

That's probably because they're showing a Standard Definition signal and "stretching" it wider to fill the screen. The other alternative is to show SD signals in their native format, which will have black bars on each side; but at least it will display in the correct aspect ratio.
