It is an unfortunate fact that most open racists in America also hold highly conservative views on such issues as gay "rights," abortion, the death penalty, and so forth.

The association of social (and for that matter fiscal) conservatism with racism, some of it earned and some of it unfairly imposed by the media, has been the single biggest cross that conservatism has had to bear for the last 50 years.
