I'm sorry that your child was killed by a drunk driver, but that doesn't give you the right to pull my car over at random and search me or it.
I'm sorry that your father died of lung cancer at the age of 60, but that doesn't give you the right to tell me I can't smoke in my own house or car.
I'm sorry that your best friend died of a heart-attack after eating nothing but Big Macs all his life, but that doesn't give you the right to tell me that I can't eat fats if I want to.
I'm sorry that you were raised to be squeamish at the sight of blood, but that does not give you the right to force me to eat only vegetables or wear only plant fibers.
I'm sorry that you can't afford health insurance, but that does not give you the right to force me to provide it for you.
I'm sorry that over 150 years ago people with the same color skin as me enslaved people with the same color skin as you, but that doesn't give you the right take the hard-earned efforts of my labor for yourself.
I'm sorry that your homeland is corrupt and your culture has no work ethic, but that doesn't give you the right to come here illegally and burden our schools and emergency rooms with your presence.
I'm sorry that your parents chose to come here illegally, but that doesn't give you the right to force me to fund your college education.
I'm sorry that you find it fashionable to ride your bike to work, but that doesn't give you the right to take away my car.
I'm sorry that your lack of intelligence and attention through high school and college left you fit only for a job as a public school teacher, but that doesn't give you the right to inflict your anger and ideology on my child.
I'm sorry that you are mentally and physically unfit to serve in our nation's Armed Forces, but that does not give you the right to disparage those who are fit and do serve.
I'm sorry that your parents and teachers continually told you that you are unique and special, but you are not.
I'm sorry that the jocks stuffed you in your locker in high school, but that doesn't give you the right to equate my President with Hitler.
I'm sorry that you failed Trigonometry, but that doesn't give you the right to equate Sociology with Engineering
I'm sorry that you are not as attractive as other women, but that does not give you the right to impose your feminist idiocracy on me, my company or my family.
I'm sorry that your nervous system is so exquisitely sensitive that you can be hurt by minute variations in air pressure caused by sound waves, but that doesn't give you the right to determine what I can and can not say.
I'm sorry that your enormous ego coupled with a complete lack of self-esteem, lack of any sense of self-worth and ignorance about how the real world works has led you to becoming a Liberal, but... Well, no buts. I'm not really sorry.
Remember: Anyone who tells you "it's for the children" believes that YOU are a child.
I think as other establishments look into it, it could become something very viable, especially if they started teaming up....and were given some type of incentive, such as a discount on their annual alcohol licenses, and/or business licenses.
I think thats workable in larger urban centers, where the bar’s are in closer proximity to each other.
No cab service where I am, unless you count John Deere combines....(chuckle)
I worked in a biker bar years ago, and we knew where all the police units were, especially if they were sitting still.
Now, with cell phones, the hardcore partiers call each other and tell one another where to avoid. You think that information doesn't travel like wildfire?
They are drunk, and while that may affect judgement, and drunken people may do stupid things, it does not mean they are completely stupid.
‘Go ahead. Laugh. Deny.

I think its known to some, but not to most.
My Cincinnati Bengals got busted in a checkpoint stop that was noted on the radio, for just one example...along with fourteen other vehicles found to have intoxicated drivers on Kellogg Avenue after last years win at Pittsburgh.
As a biker myself, I know its a helluva lot easier to turn around and circuvent these checkpoints than it is with a four wheeler...but that doesn’t change the fact they do nail some drunks that otherwise wouldnt’ have gotten caught.
You can’t ‘prove it’ but I think its reasonable to say at least a couple of accidents were in fact prevented via checkpoints.
Anyway, we’ve now beaten this one to death. I’d rather we beat drunk drivers to death...but hey, thats just me.
Joe is correct........word spreads very quickly about where checkpoints are located, be they for DUI or “safety” checks.
About a month ago there was a “safety” checkpoint set up a mile or so south of the Moose Lodge, it was a Bingo night and someone coming to Bingo had just seen it in the southbound lanes. There is no drinking in the Bingo Hall, but within minutes of this person’s arrival everyone in the Hall and in Social Quarters (aka the bar) knew exactly where it was. I volunteer in the kitchen on Bingo nights and so heard the talk from both the bar and the hall about ways to get home while avoiding it.
Yes, people to pay attention, even if they have been drinking, to the locations of the stops.
I’ll note anyone ‘paying close attention’ are the least likely to get so drunk they can’t tell a stop sign from a ‘s curve ahead’ sign, and leave it at that.
Any time a Drunk Driver is taken off the road, its a good thing. Period.
There is relatively little cab service around here as well, but something like this could create new businesses. Local communities are forever offering financial incentives to attract new business, why not offer such to businesses looking to help keep drunk drivers off the road and create/increase business at the same time.
The place I mentioned actually bought a used bus and the owners say it has already paid for itself, even though they do not charge for the service. The local cops are thrilled with it, and the place’s business has really grown.
To me it is a win/win idea all the way around.......and is a viable alternative to the DUI roadblocks...which is what you were asking for, wasn’t it? It’s working here, it could work anywhere.
People who misuse their right of travel and mode of travel in a way that endangers others can forfeit that right.
You ought to learn more about this stuff. If you don't, you may find yourself without rights from no "cause" on your part.
Oookay....(chuckle)
You can laugh off the dangers of incrementalism, but we're seeing it happen before our very eyes. It is very real.
‘You ought to learn more about this stuff. If you don’t, you may find yourself without rights from no “cause” on your part’
No way, I have you protecting my rights!
(chuckle)
‘You can laugh off the dangers of incrementalism, but we’re seeing it happen before our very eyes. It is very real.’
One person’s ‘incrementalism’ is another man’s common sense approach to a real world problem thats killing thousands each and every year on our highways.
I understand ‘incrementalism’. I also understand funerals for innocent people killed by irresponsible drivers in an era where ‘personal responsibility’ is frowned upon as being ‘a conservative idea’.
so far, I’ve concluded that checkpoints, while not perfect, do in fact get drunks off the road, and they also catch people that drive without a license, without insurance, at the same time.
I understand you fear it will lead to ‘creep’ and I think its a good thing some raise the alarm as you and others have done with me throughout the past two days on this thread.
Anyway, I appreciate the responses I’ve gotten to my posts....all of them, especially the ‘con’ point of view. Hell, you don’t learn much if everybody agrees on every topic, so for that I’m okay with whats been said.
Except the being called a ‘troll’ once....(chuckle)
Yes, you do, in a social kind of way. But are you protecting mine, in a social kind of way?
‘Yes, you do, in a social kind of way. But are you protecting mine, in a social kind of way?’
I think so, if only by forcing you to review your own stance on given issues.
Enjoy your evening, and thanks for the conversation.
Have you even read my posts?

Yes....but then I get infatuated with the blue apple, and it wavers before my eyes.....(chuckle)
Just kiddin. Have a great evening, outta here for the day.

Okay, here we go again. Define "drunk".
I wasn’t ragging on you, I was telling you and Gabz that it was Badeye’s viewpoint that if you weren’t doing anything wrong, you had nothing to worry about. Sorry-I repeat for you-you CAN NOT have a 100% safe , no-risk nation/world UNLESS you give up your freedom and privacy totally. You apparently agree with Badeye that it’s worth it. Nope. Not me. Maybe Gabz can get you to understand, I’m out of the thread. It does me no good to get my blood pressure up with people who won’t listen.
