A year or so ago, we imported a couple pallets of pencils for a one off thing for a function. They came out of India. The cost was 1/11th of a penny per pencil.
I still can’t figure out how you can buy raw materials and make a pencil(no eraser though) for 1/11th of a penny.
Now I know, they probably made from Toxic waste.
They were all warped and crappy(didn’t write dark enough) so we ended up dumping them.

The only, and I mean only wood case pencil worth anything is the Ticonderoga by Dixon made with reforested California cedar. They are certified non-toxic. Parents don't even think about something as non-descript as a pencil, as their kids go off to school. And kids put everything in their mouths! All Chinese pencils are garbage ... the points break, the wood case is inferior and doesn't sharpen ... you get what you pay for.
