A Gainesville man awoke to the sounds of a dog fight early Monday. When he walked outside, he found his dog locked in the jaws of a large pit bull.
"I'm sound asleep and my wife says there's a dog fight in the yard," said Fletcher Sutton, 58. "And within 90 seconds I find myself standing in the yard in my bathrobe with a knife in one hand, a gun in the other and a dog dead between my legs."

Sounds about right. Pit Bulls are VERY popular in North Central Florida. About the only way to keep your dog from eventually being ripped up by one is to make sure your dog IS one.
Is that “dogs of peace” as in “religion of peace?”
Yeah, that sounds like pit bulls.
Oh boy, here it comes, Vick this, Vick that...
Dogs are a direct reflection of the owners in most cases. Sure breeds have a lot to do with tendancies, but man, raising a dog is like raising a child, you get out of it what you put into it.
Yep...
Is this going to be another anti-pit thread. Of all folks, people who respect the rights of firearms, how can FReepers be so nanny-esc about Pit Bulls?
He is an old man.... perhaps he should have a dead dog between the legs?
Viagra?
I'm actually planning on getting an American Pit Bull Terrier fairly soon. I like the way that they look as well as their breed characteristics.
Flame away.
Sometimes you have to shoot them :( Some of those dogs are just nuts.
There were a couple of them running loose here. My neighbor jogs regularly, and takes her dog with her. One of them confronted her a month or so ago, and she (little thing that she is), screamed at it, and it ran off. My adult son was walking our dog the other day, and those damn dogs charged at them. Dead pit bull. Our dog is a wolf hybrid/English Mastiff. He’s around 11 yrs old, and was on a leash. He’s always on a leash, or in a fenced yard, or in his Ft Knox dog yard.
I’m an animal lover, but for chrissakes, contain your animals!
“...how can FReepers be so nanny-esc about Pit Bulls?”
There’s nothing nanny-anything about us or anyone else who is in opposition to the breed. There are countless, endless news stories about murderous pit bulls who’ve attacked, maimed or outright killed other dogs, children, adults and every other manner of living thing imaginable.
In the current political lexicon ‘nanny’ refers to things dims want the government involved with that most of us feel we can or should handle by ourselves. Pit bulls hardly fit within those parameters.
Or are you saying you could ‘handle’ a raging, homicidal pit bull all by yourself?
Firearms don't go off by themselves if you fail to rub behind their sights every day...
So what do you "buy"...the testimony of the guy trying to sell you one?
It chased down a pickup truck and ripped off the door with its powerful jaws. It then ate the occupants. Someone shot at it, but the bullets bounced off of its skin.

No flames from me. That is an adorable looking puppy :)
I have some advice for you. Check the breeder out thoroughly, before getting a puppy. I turned someone in for selling inbred pits, and no one did a thing about it.
Such a puppy!
Yes, like I can handle a 38’.... I don’t need no nanny you big baby.... you need someone to change your diapers too?
Kids around here don't seem to have too many problems, but then when our kids are in the woods they are generally armed with at least a good pocket knife and more likely a firearm.
Diaper change tambien? .... you need a nanny?.... I don’t... In fact... before I die... I’ll make law before I’m a bitch to it.
Sorry. Sarcasm only works when you enjoy an easy familiarity with the subject matter...and not from arduous google searches, either.
Where I live, you might as well try being sarcastic about snow to an Inuit.
