Difficult to believe that the commonly used pork is as tender and mushy as this soaked cardboard, Also difficult to believe that the flavor wouldn’t be a dead giveaway. It would taste like alkali.

If you do it with the right amount, the sodium hydroxide reacts completely with the cardboard leaving no alkali taste.

Foods, other than cardboard, processed with NaOH include lutefisk, grits, pretzels, and olives.
