Reaction to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (vanity)

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anybody had seen Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I saw it this weekend and I liked it a lot. The movie vastly improved on the original and included some terrific adventure. The film is very humorous by showing the squabbling relationships among the four heroes without diverting from the mythic atmosphere and storyline. The Silver Surfer is a wonderful character, though I wish that they showed more of him. The final battle with Doctor Doom is awesome. The film took many elements from some of the classic storylines in the comic books and put them together. There were some rough spots here and there, but overall is was very well done. I had a lot of fun watching it! Anyone else see it?

I haven’t seen it but I heard that they made Galactus into a planet-sized cloud, instead of the huge, planet-eating, armor-wearing humanoid that he is.

THe CGI was outstanding, the premise was great, the sound editing was superior, but the story was a little predictable. I called the final wedding scene 2.5 seconds into the movie. I loved the surfer. What a great character.

Nice B grade entertainment. I liked it and so did my 15 year old son.

The cloud is more of a manifestation of Galactus’ power than anything else. Galactus’ true essence is deep inside the cloud where he appears to be a being made of cosmic fire and energy. In the last battle, you briefly see a shadowy outline of Galactus’ form in the shape of his head and his famous helmet from the comic books.

I’d rather watch re-runs of Spongebob Squarepants.

SpongeRobert is good, too. I’d rather watch Beany & Cecil.

I saw it, with my 16 and 13 yo sons and a friend of theirs, also 16 and his parents. We all liked it. I don’t know all the background, just saw it as a movie, and gave it about a 7, maybe. 7.5.
I thought it was better than the original, Johnny Storm bugged the heck out of me the first one.
I was wondering...those lips on Jessica Alba, are they for real or does she get them plumped up???
i love The Thing.

My date commented on the lips. We were in a huge theater, so it was like 18 feet of lips.

She definitely had some work done. That was fine, I just can't get past her hair.

If you had told me a few years ago that someone would make a movie about a silver guy and a flying surfboard --- on fire--- and adults were actually talking about it, I would have checked myself in for delusional experiences.

You got to be kidding me. The world is full of teenagers and 40-somethings going on 13?

The Fantastic Four? What garbage.

The Avengers would hand the Fantastic Four their lunch in about half a second. Even the West Coast Avengers could take out the Fantastic Four and still have time for dinner and a movie.

LOL ... I haven't seen the Fantastic Four movie, but I did just watch the second X-Men with my kids. I thought it was pretty enjoyable.

Mostly I agree with you.
BUT...at least in the Oklahoma oil-town that I grew up in,
for guys in the age 8-14 bracket in the 1970s, The Silver Surfer
was intriguing as a comic-book character, especially in comparison
to the likes of Batman and Superman.

Hence, I do suspect there is a "40-going on 13" demographic that
did want to see The Silver Surfer come to the silver screen.

Despite all their colossal goof-ups, the suits in Hollywood don't
green-light anything unless they thing they will see the color
of green at the bottom of the balance sheet!

Oh, okay. That makes sense. After all, Galactus is larger than human life ... literally!

I always wait for movies to hit the DVD. But, since I’m a sucker for comic book heroes (mostly Marvel [my brother collected Marvel comics]), we’ll probably just outright buy it. We have the first movie and my daughter and I LOVED Johnny. Reed was the egghead I expected him to be and Ben, grumpy as usual. Although Jessica Alba pulled off Sue, I thought someone else should have been Sue.

I liked how the actors brought their characters to life, especially the actors who played Ben and Johnny. They were great.

You make that comment about the Whackos like they were second stringers. OK, so Tigra and Mockingbird were weak, but Wonder Man and Iron Man could each take just about everybody.

However, I’m not sure anyone can take out Reed Richards if he has any time to prepare. He’ll just make a world-dominating gadget and stick it on his belt.

Overall it stunk for seeing in the theatre. Would of preferred to wait for it on DVD/Cable, but I was bored and had an afternoon to waste. Like another poster stated. B grade entertainment.
