Report: Vista more secure than OS X and Linux

Attention Linux, Vista, and Apple fan boys: put on your gloves... it's time to rumble! A 6-month vulnerability report issued by Jeff "Security Guy" Jones has caught the eye of Redmond and the ire of places beyond. The report which bases its security assessment upon vulnerabilities found (not actually exploited) claims that Vista is "more secure than OS X and Linux." In fact, the much maligned XP even crushes the competition using their calculations. Of course, it's worth noting that Jeff is a member of Microsoft's Security business unit which will probably sway your opinion as to the integrity of the data. Still, as incomplete as the assessment may be, it certainly appears to be a good showing for Vista considering the vast community of hackers attempting to thwart its security. We can predict what Billy G's probably saying right about now: Dy-no-mite JJ!

Interesting. I am posting this because of my deep interest in the intricacies of the security standards for operating systems, and I hope that this thread in now way degenerates into a thread where the users of different systems call each other names.

I’m deadly serious, it’s not like I have every suggested that Mac’s are for homosexuals or anything.

It would take a lot to convince me that anything Windows generates is more secure than Linux. Possible, not probable.

Need more data!

It's kind of like being on FR in 2003, when W was giving away the farm to Ted Kennedy. We all thought, surely, W is smart and he is capable of pulling off something big. Turned out he was just an idiot who have into Kennedy think that he could win him over.

Same with Mircrosoft. We like to think that with their resources they could do something really good, but chances are that underneath is just the usual crap.

I hope that this thread in now way degenerates into a thread where the users of different systems call each other names.

But it is soooooo much fun

The Windows XP statistics are simply unbelievable
Vista hasn’t been out very long, give it time

I have NEVER had a virus, Trojan horse, 'bot, or any other parasitic monster in any of my Macs since '84. Can't say that about the Windows boxes I work on, even behind professionally maintained firewalls

And I just had $8 million wire transfered to my bank from an anonymous source.

I don’t know, not fixing more than 50% of your known bugs in the 1st 6 months is anything but “more secure” than others. Sure XP had more bugs, they were actually, uhhhhhhhhhh you know, fixed.

Sorry I don't get that comment. I just don't. Mac OS X is BSD Unix. Unix, Linux, Solaris are the most dependable and robust OSes out there. I guess I don't see how sexual orientation = BSD Unix.

I can see how lack of intellect = Windows. (Bloated, over priced crap that is light years behind the others).

But they can run the web on Windows. Mac and Linux don't have that yet...(at least, that's what I hear.)
