Wilsons Mills Authorities in Johnston County could charge a father in a crash that injured his 9-year-old daughter not because he caused the crash, but because he allegedly beat up the driver who did.
Police in Wilsons Mills said the driver ran a red light along U.S. Highway 70 and collided with another vehicle in which the girl was a passenger. She was thrown out of the vehicle and critically injured.
Police said the girls father left his vehicle and attacked the driver who hit them. The driver was taken to an area hospital for injuries he sustained during the altercation.
Charges are pending against the driver who caused the crash, police said. Charges may also be filed against the injured girls father in connection with the incident afterwards.
Witnesses said the child wasnt wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

This guy picked a hell of a time to get concerned about his daughter’s safety. Maybe next time you’ll make sure she’s buckled in, chief.
Well, I won't disagree with that, as I'm a firm believer in seat belts, but at what point did she die?
Is there a later story?
FYI, she was critically injured, not killed.
If the driver was a an illegal without a license or insurance, I hope he whipped that driver’s backside but good.
Your car is destroyed, they have no insurance and then they won’t show up to court, your own insurance has to cover the expenses, and then there is your daughter who had been hurt.
Agreed. However I question if the driver who caused the accident might have been intoxicated and/or an illegal immigrant (Both big problems here). Waiting to hear more about this before making a judgment...
True, I better go get that third cup of coffee.. :-)
I’ll withold judgment on the assault. I’ve gotten the, “So what, not my problem.” line from people who have just done something horribly negligent/dangerous. If I received that line after someone had just hurt my child, I might go postal on them too.
That said, I keep my kids restrained in a vehicle, and love the four point restraint of child seats.
bttt

Looks like Alec Baldwin has some competition for “Father of the Year.”
Every red light runner should be charged with attempted murder.
Given the article's dogged avoidance of identifying anyone involved, I'd surmise that there's a fairly high probability that an Illegal Alien was involved here.
(What if "the father" were the Illegal? Or both "the driver" and "the father"?)
Hang that SOB.
Police Will Let DA Decide Charges in Crash That Hurt Girl and Fight After
Wilsons Mills Wilsons Mills police said Sunday they would turn over an accident case to the Johnston County district attorney to determine whether to file charges against a driver who ran a red light and the other driver, who they say beat him up after the second driver's daughter was seriously hurt.
Police said the driver who ran the light on U.S. Highway 70 suffered six broken bones in his face from the fight. He suffered minor injuries from the accident, they said.
The second driver's daughter, 9, was in stable condition at Duke University Hospital, police said. They did not disclose the nature of her injuries, but said she was thrown from the vehicle by the crash.
The girl's parents suffered minor injuries and were released after treatment, police said.
The girls father left his vehicle and attacked the driver who hit them, police said.
Witnesses said the child was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Ran a red light. Talking on his cell phone perhaps?
I can’t tell you the number of people who have nearly hit me HARD by blowing off stopsigns while mindlessly and illegally talking on their cell phones. It’s the single biggest factor in the near misses I’ve ever had.
That being said, he should have had her buckled in. I won’t put the vehicle in gear unless everyone is buckled in.
