As I mentioned in the Freepmail, I was going to put something together for this weekend, but the events at my alma mater have been on my mind too much. I spent many hours in Norris Hall, particularly during my sophomore year. I'm fairly certain that I had two or three classes in room 204. A friend has a daughter at Tech, but she wasn't in danger as far as I know. The names that I've seen don't seem familiar, so I don't think any of the victims were children of my classmates. It's creepy to think of that guy walking the same pathways that I walked so long ago.

Yes, I graduated from Virginia Tech in 1986. When I was there, it was called Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. We all abbreviated it to "VPI," but I guess most of the current generation wouldn't recognize that acronym. I remember seeing the old name on a banner behind the news people in that room where they had all of the press conferences. It's pretty shocking to see that stuff happen where you've been.

I thought your idea for the other thread was great, and I appreciate your taking the initiative. Thanks for taking action.

Glad to be able to “step up to the plate” when I needed to. (just like the Reds did in the FINAL out of the 9th inning tonight!!)

I still have the full ping list in my email from a year or more back—so I just copied it—and “off we went”!!

It looked like another loss for us. I had given up on the game after they left the bases loaded in the 6th, and could NOT get ONE run in!!

It’s always nice when your team wins at the end. My favorite hockey team won one the other night in overtime, but I don’t know whether they are still in the series. They may have lost out already.
