For God’s sake...this is an excellant article.
Let’s just dismiss the informative and eye opening article because it MIGHT be “liberal”. Well, it is not only liberal to criticize our government when it is NOT WORKING! In this case, the author points out very well WHY it is not working. It is the first time I have seen this information and there is plenty we need to change re food safety—pet or human.
The point about rosie was well made, because she continued the distortion of the information we were given by regulatory agencies in a very public way! And her stupidity about the “kitty.kitty” comment shows how non pet owners missed the point about recalls and food safety.

The article as far as the information is good-I don't dismiss the info. The presentation and hysteria I had a bit of a problem with.
Before I get flamed--I have three toy breed dogs I was feeding the same food that was recalled (Nutro Ultra canned). Paid big bucks for them to have blood tests to make sure they are ok (they are so far)
It's just that I think that the ones that yell the loudest blaming the govt are usually the ones that want MORE govt control over our lives.
Why wasn't there a non-govt agency or assoc that could have set up the information to be gotten out there to the public? I agree it was handled wrong. But like I said before, I will turn into a Bush bash.

This info has been reported on Fox News network. It was reported as soon as facts were known. I don’t trust the companies involved on issues of this sort. However, the article did point out that the FDA said that there was no place for information of this sort, and since this is such an enormous number of pet deaths, perhaps this oversight will be corrected. Pet owners and the lawsuits that will follow will see to that. Maybe when Congress returns from their holiday they can tackle the problem. Can’t blame everything that goes wrong in the world on Bush.

I thought the whole point of conservatism is government doesn’t work. How will creating a whole new expensive, cumbersome bureaucracy keep something like this from happening again.
This whole situation is utterly disgusting. Vets tell us not to feed our pets table scraps and that things like Science Diet are best but they are liars.
And really, the whole thing with Rosie O’Donnel in the article, disgusting too. Instead of blaming the government, how about placing the blame where it belongs, the media is supposed to inform us. But they’re too busy trying to convince us every day firings of AG’s are a huge scandal. Or trying to get us to worship Holy Mo so the Muzzies will settle down. Or that this year will again, just like last year, be the worst hurricane season either.
Who watches the watchers?

For Gods sake...this is an excellant article.
As the mommy of three kitties, I too think it was a very informative article. But the article made it sound like the FDA was entirely to blame and not Menu Foods, while the FDA sounded a bit like they are trying to pass the buck by saying they dont have the jurisdiction or manpower to ensure the safety of pet foods - Im not sure whos wrong or right or if the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
If the FDA is responsible for ensuring the safety of foods - human and animal and promptly notifying the public of problems, then something really failed here either they have oversight or they dont - and if this failure doesnt concern some of you because you dont have a pet, then consider that the same rules and oversight goes into the animal feeds that ultimately effects the human food chain what your steak or chicken breast ate ultimately goes into you.
I dont want to sound Chino-phobic but Im very concerned about food products from overseas, especially China and Im very concerned about the FDAs ability to oversee what goes into the food we eat.
And for those of you who are so sensitive to read any criticism of our government as a personal attack on GW, then all I can say is we have tradition going back well over two hundred years of criticizing the government starting with King George. Sometimes the government and its agencies need and deserve our criticisms.
While GW is the Chief Executive, I dont hold him personally responsible for everything I do however hold the career bureaucrats in charge of these agencies accountable to deliver what they promise and what my tax dollars supposedly pays for.
