What's the best adultery song?

What's the best adultery song?

In light of current events, KFOG's Dave Morey conducted a contest this morning for the best adultery song ever.

His listeners (of a certain demographic) nominated a bunch, including the Eagles' "Lyin' Eyes," Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," and Derek and the Dominos' "Layla" -- which has the advantage of being about the most famous adulterous affair since, what, Paris and Helen of Troy?

Dave's winner: "Me and Mrs. Jones," by Billy Paul, which isn't much musically but does have lyrics that resonate with people who've got a thing going on.

Even more poignant, though not reflective of the mess at City Hall, there's Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love For You."

Strange topic. "Part-time Lovers" by Stevie Wonder. "Suspicious Minds" as sung by Elvis, isn't an adultery song, but sort of conveys the same mood.

I heard "Lying Eyes" the other day, and was almost sick. Not a moral thing. It's just that the Eagles haven't worn well with time. Nowadays, for better or worse, singers get to the point sooner, and wallowing as the Eagles did is passé.

"I Honestly Love You," sung by Olivia Newton-John in her pre-"Physical" pre-slut period qualifies as a nice non- or anti-adultery song.

Yup, that's the idea. Adultery and first degree murder...

#1. WITHOUT QUESTION : Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town - Kenny Rogers

#2. Take A Letter, Maria - R. B. Greaves

#3. Nights in White Satin - Moody Blues (Not sure this is exactly adultery but I has always struck me as so.)

I've got to add this one:

#4. Trapped in the Closet - R. Kelly. It is a series that tells the stupidest story. So awful it is unforgettable. In the world of entertainment that may qualify it for a "best"!

Worst Adultery song: Rupert Whatshisface - Escape (The Pina Colada Song)

No it has got to be "Hungry Heart". That is one of the few songs that my hand breaks the sound barrier stabbing for the tuner dial.

I know it's cheesy, but I like The Pina Colada Song. Also, the current "I really wanna cheat song" Lips of an Angel.

How about "You Belong to Me?" (Carly Simon)?

Does "Maybelline" qualify?

Heh, in that same vein, I think one of the best anti-adultery songs would be George Jones's ...

*He stopped loving her today ... they placed a wreath upon his door ... soon they'll carry him away ... he stopped loving her ... today.*

Vern Gosdin is the master as far as I'm concerned.
It's just not "dead drunk and weeping" time without Vern...

althought Almond Brothers - One Way Out would be my #2.

Lol, they aren't candy bars and it's the Allman brothers, not the Almond Brothers.

My favorite would be an old tune from the 50's or 60's..."Shorty" by an artist named Shorty Long.

I remember some of the tune from my youth but have been unable to locate a copy of the 45.

These lyrics are from a long ago youthful (then) memory and are not complete or totally correct:

When you hear your woman holler lawdy, lawdy
You can bet you life she's got her mind on Shorty
I'm Shorty.
I'm the back door man when you're out of town
I'm your best friend when you're around]
I use your money and when I need a favor
I sometimes pose as your next door neighbor
I'm Shorty
