AP) NEW YORK James Brown's music career will come full circle when his body is brought to rest on the stage of the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, where he made his explosive debut, and the world changed to his beat.
The public will be permitted on Thursday to visit the Apollo to have one more look at a man who helped steer modern musical tastes toward rhythm-and-blues, funk, hip-hop, disco and rap, the Rev. Al Sharpton said Tuesday. The reverend has been a close friend of Brown for decades.
"It would almost be unthinkable for a man who lived such a sensational life to go away quietly," Sharpton said in an interview from Georgia, where he was making funeral arrangements with Brown's children.
Sharpton said the public Apollo viewing will be followed by a private ceremony Friday in Brown's hometown, Augusta, Ga., and another public ceremony, officiated by Sharpton, a day later at the James Brown Arena there.

Sharpton said Brown always knew his place in history.
"He used to tell me, `There are two American originals, Elvis and me,'" Sharpton said. "'Elvis is gone, and I've got to carry on.'"
wow, humble too.

How fitting that slick willie will be attending. Wonder if her heinous will lower herself to go to Harlem.
I expect Brown to jump up for the encore.
You know the Big Creep LOOOOVES any excuse to go to Harlem...
Hitlary? Good question, but I think not. They'll vote for her anyway.
You are funnneeeee.......
She was there the other day giving out food.
Phew! That's gonna smell. His body started decomposing 15 years ago.
Oh for pity sake...this is a crook, wife beater and other things, and he's 'laying in state'????? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!
Her heinous was in Harlem giving out food?
Beethoven was a well-documented abusive a**hole too.
I'm not comparing James Brown with Beethoven, but Brown left a great musical legacy that should be revered and celebrated (even if some of its offspring went bad).
Conservatives gots to have some soul too, ya know. Wouldn't kill ya.
You can idolize this creep all you want....I won't....he's no better than your former Prez. Klinton....
He's w-a-a-a-y-y-y-y better than former President Clinton, whose sax playing sounds like a fart in a barrel by the way.
He played at Nixon's 1969 inauguration celebration.
What about the women who hit their husbands (sometimes first)? Should the man just "take it"? Teachers were wrong, it doesn't "take two to fight" but sometimes "abuse" is a two-way street.
James Brown did his time in jail for his high speed reckless offense. What more did he need to do to make amends in your view? His wife died getting plastic surgery because of traces of PCP in her system.
How was he a crook? Steal your heart? Steal your cape? I don't recall that part of his past.
He was an American first and was still proud of this country at the time of his death.
Johnny Cash didn't live a moral life either (drugs and adultery).
The bigger thing to complain about is Rev. Al Sharpton's involvement. But as the article says, they were friends a long time.
James Brown live at the Boston Garden 1968, shortly after the assasination of MLK. There was a quick decision made to broadcast the concert live on tv.
