Are you the poster who embodies the caricature that left-wingers have established of Freepers? I just wasted an hour viewing some left-wing sites, and I noticed a lot of Freeper-bashing. I've noticed this before, of course; but it got me to wondering who exactly they're talking about. The DU'ers, etc have plenty of negative adjectives for and descriptions of Freepers, but they never specify who exactly on Free Republic fits these descriptions.
So in the spirit of bipartisanship that is swarming over Washington I figured I might help them out. Once we decide who fits the caricature they have of Freepers it will save them time and energy in having to type out all their adjectives, and name-calling descriptions all over again. Now they can just post that "all Freepers are like_______" and everybody will know what they're talking about.
So I came up with some common characteristics that are used to describe Freepers and narrowed them down to 10. I left out some of the ones that nobody will admit to like racist/homophobic etc. Here they are:
1: Gun-toting
2: Backwood redneck or Southern (or at least a redneck attitude)
3: Bible-thumping evangelical
4: Unhinged
5: Uneducated (I guess our standard should be less than college educated)
6: Ultra-conservative
7: Shops at Wal-mart
8: Loves Nascar
9: Listens to country music
10: Loves Tom Tancredo
What percentage of Freeper are you?
1: I own a .22. I guess that counts
2: I live on 40 acres. It's a first-time experience for me, but I made the transition to "redneck" smoothly.
3: I believe in the Bible.
4: There are times I get unhinged.
7: I seldom go to Wal-mart, but I love to go to Lowe's which is like the Wal-mart of home improvement stores.
Hey, you have any clue how many penality points you get for crusing liberal bars and sites. I would guess the moderator will throw you out or God Forbid, put you in General Chat.
Well I'm 1,4 and 9 so I guess that makes me only 30% Freeper.
Too bad, I was hoping to oblige or at least make a better showing.
I took a shower!
Well you guys are only 30%. What are you doing here? :)
2: Backwood redneck or Southern (or at least a redneck attitude)....Nope. Born in cosmopolitan Brooklyn, New York. (But like to think I have a redneck attitude)
3: Bible-thumping evangelical...nope. A non-religious Jew.
4: Unhinged..Yeah. Pretty much.
5: Uneducated (I guess our standard should be less than college educated)...high school drop out. Went back to school to get high school diploma. And went to a technicval school.
6: Ultra-conservative...Yes.
7: Shops at Wal-mart...Nope. Never stepped foot in one, much less shopped in one. And thats only because there are no Wal-Marts conveiently near me.
8: Loves Nascar..Nope. Hates Nascar. Hate sports of all kinds. I find sports boring.
9: Listens to country music...Nope.
10: Loves Tom Tancredo....I guess. Who is he?
1: Gun-toting: NO, but support the NRA & have been a memeber.
Half a point? Zero points?
2: Backwood redneck or Southern (or at least a redneck attitude): NO
3: Bible-thumping evangelical: This is a tough one, cuz I'm not a member of any church & I tend to keep my musings about the end times to myself.
Half a point? Zero points?
4: Unhinged: YES, but aren't we all?
5: Uneducated (I guess our standard should be less than college educated): YES, unless you knock off points for beauty school & the school of hard knocks.
6: Ultra-conservative: YES, though some around here would disagree about it in some of my positions.
7: Shops at Wal-mart: YES
8: Loves Nascar: NO
9: Listens to country music: NO
10: Loves Tom Tancredo: Love? NO... Any points for being a strong supporter of Sensenbrenner?
BTW, based on demographics, I'd be a hard lefty.
Regards, Ivan
You're not a "real" Freeper. We all know that all Freepers are Ultra-national, xenophobic Americans! ;)

Have never owned a gun or even fired one. Have no desire to do so. But I do support the right to keep and bear arms, which is guaranteed by the Second Amendment.
2: Backwood redneck or Southern (or at least a redneck attitude)
Northern urbanite, born and raised in the city of Chicago, currently living in St. Louis. I hang out in coffee shops and go to museums.
3: Bible-thumping evangelical
Liturgical, sacramental Lutheran. Significant theological differences with American Evangelicals, but I do have a conservative view of Scripture and hold traditional moral values, so I guess the pagan uninformed would mistakenly lump me in with the "fundies."
4: Unhinged
My hinge is working just fine.
5: Uneducated (I guess our standard should be less than college educated)
B.A., two Masters, and a dissertation away from a Ph.D. Can work in seven languages.
6: Ultra-conservative
Guilty as charged.
7: Shops at Wal-mart
Not if I can help it.
8: Loves Nascar
I find auto racing utterly boring. Have never watched a NASCAR event. I'm a lifelong baseball fan.
9: Listens to country music
Can't stand the stuff. Maybe a little Dwight Yoakam is as close as I get. Eclectic musical tastes: Classical, soul, rockabilly, big band, Bach, Benny Goodman, CCR, Al Green, Wilson Pickett, John Philip Sousa.
10: Loves Tom Tancredo
Who? I have seen the name on FR threads, but don't know much about him.
So, all in all, I guess I only fit 10% of the criteria, #6. Ultra-conservative, and even that would depend on how it's defined. I am a social/moral/fiscal/constitutional conservative.
Country Music Sometimes
Ultra Consertive, You can better believe it! I have been so consertive that I make Rush look like a commie!

8: Loves Nascar - "Love" is too strong a word, "Like", OK
9: Listens to country music - Nope
10: Loves Tom Tancredo - "Love" is too strong a word, "Like", OK
Call it 60%
