Last January, I received an email that explained that most Poinsetta's come from Ecke Greenhouses. And that a lot of the Ecke fortune has been spent supporting Planned Parenthood and other groups that are anti-life.
Having recently bought poinsettas, as part of the celebration of our Lords miraculous birth, I had wished that someone had told me the truth sooner.
So this year I'm telling as many people as possible. Before they go shopping.
Please take a moment to let your friends know that poinsettas are definitely out this year!
What's an Ecke?
I think you will have more success if you do.
You've got local greenhouses that grow them most likely.
Are Christmas trees out this year as well?
Thanks for the tip. I will ask my local florists where they get their poinsettias before I buy.
And no, DU, this is not a fascist boycott of Ecke Greenhouses. It is free people in a free country making an informed decision in the free marketplace. If Ecke Greenhouses and other businesses want the business of people who care about the lives of unborn children, then they are free to change their policies and donation practices in this free marketplace.
Why would I punish my local greenhouse that has been growing them this year to see at Christmas? They supply most of the stores around here.
Because Ecke is responsible for well over 60% of the poinsettas sold, there is a good chance that you are buying one of there's.
If you can confirm that the poinsetta you are buying never, ever came from Ecke's Greenhouse. Then go for it.
Since most people won't take the time to ask. And most employees/store managers, when asked, won't know the answer.
It's best to skip Poinsettas all together this year.
Elisabeth Ecke may be related to Paul Ecke, but I didn't see anything in the article that ties her to the Paul Ecke Ranch business or that the Paul Ecke ranch supports planned parenthood.
Those "pass this along to everyone on your list!!!" emails are usually a crock.
You mean giving my account information to that nice Nigerian who wanted to transfer $15 million into my account was not a good idea?
Yes, and also no grilled cheese sandwiches, cordless phones, Entertainment Weekly magazines or unsecured granite kitchen islands.
Well, did you get a receipt?
The name of the plant is spelled poinsettia, btw.
A good rule in general is not to buy flowers you can't spell. ;)

Did Y'shua command us to celebrate His birth ? But I do know that Y'shua commanded me to obey His commandments. Did Y'shua command us to to do social action ?

John 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Paul Ecke was a staunch Republican and enormous contributor to Republican campaigns, as is most of the Ecke family today. I worked on three campaigns in San Diego in the early 1990s and can vouch for the contributions of the Eckes.
Eek!
Why did you wait 10 months to post about an email you received in January?
Why condemn all growers, especially the locals who depend on selling their supply to finance their spring flowers?
