A few years back, my 28in Fisher TV started to give up the ghost. I went to a TV/electronics repair shop. They had a real nice 31in Magnavox there the guy only wanted 100 bux for. Since electronics was his business, I asked what if it dies? He said if it dies in 6 months, bring it back and we'll do something else.
Works as good now as it did two years ago, so I'm happy.
Some sets will last years, others die a sudden death.
I had an Bosche brand 19" (got it from a guy who owed me $$$, he was moving, didn't have cash). It was still running after 15 years and I left it when I moved to another state.
After the move, I bought a rather expensive Philips 19". It lasted 2 years and died. Repair place said it would cost more to repair it than a new one would cost. I replaced it with a cheap Orion 19", which is still running after 6 years.
