This is true of some of the most basic religious obligations such as prayer
Christians have a pretty clear cut set of obligations. It just requires some reading to actually know what they are. Such as prayer.
Matthew 6:7, it says that one should not think that repeating prayers over and over will make God listen to your prayers more (like the heathens do), since as is revealed in verse 8, "Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." That is - you are not in control of what God listens to, and by repeating prayers over and over he will not listen to you more. He already knows what your needs are. Jesus is also making a comment on these heathens that repeat prayers over and over for their own vanity to seem pious to others
Thank you, point well taken.
My primary reason for posting this on the other hand is the various and sundry arguments about Islam being a religion of peace, holy jihad, murder, martyrdom, convertion under threat of death etc. etc. etc.
With 40 "readings" and "scholars" indicating that "7 to 14" of these readings are "legitimate," it seems that mathematically one could attribute almost any action or non-action to a reading of the Quran.
Now I know that there are different versions of the Bible, but I haven't heard of any of them suggesting the equivalent of jihad.
