And just fwi, thou shalt not suffer a witch to live is in the The first covenant, not the second "Christian" book.

I'm sure that was a great comfort to those who were tortured and put to death in Christ's name.

But your main point stands---Christendom's 'Taliban' phase ran its course over 200 years ago. I don't believe we have the luxury of waiting for the Islamists to be transformed by an Enlightenment of their own.

My point is that they weren't put to death "in Christ's name" but by people who drew verses from a book that they didn't understand in context, and used them out of context, contrary to the teaching of Christ. King Saul lost the throne and ultimately his life primarily for consulting a witch. G-d evidently thought that it was pretty serious. The Messiah however brought "Love thy enemies" not incompatible with the first covenant but improving on it. The first covenant was written for a specific time, until the Messiah fulfilled prophesy, died an atoning death, and ascended to the Father and when on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit was given to the heart of man. That is what will comfort those burned at the stake. Islam undergoes no similar trans formation. The Koran is very definite that it is the FINAL and authoritative word.
