Two Arrested For Allegedly Fatally Beating Duck

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Two men are facing felony charges of animal cruelty for killing a duck they said kept stealing their bait while they were fishing, authorities said.
Santos Murcia-Rosa, 23, and Roberto Landaverde-Mancia, 22, both of North Lauderdale, were arrested Monday, the Broward Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The pair were fishing at a lake in North Lauderdale when ducks began taking bread they were using as bait, according to the statement. One duck they tried to move away with a stick kept returning and the men started hitting the duck, according to a statement Murcia-Ross gave detectives.
The animal cruelty charge is a third degree felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison, the sheriff's office said. Murcia-Rosa was being held on $10,000 bond. Landaverde-Mancia was released on $2,500 bond, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's office said. It was not clear why the bond amount was different and not known if they had lawyers.
How about if it is known if they're illegals? Not that the news report would let us know...
I think that if I had occasion to face animal-cruelty charges at all, I'd rather face them for beating a duck than for choking a chicken.

Why does this somehow make funny things begin to pop up in my head?
When I was 14, I went to a State Park with a friend. There were some ducks, and I picked up a rock and flung it at one (I know...stupid kid thing)
Well, didn't I hit it. My buddy got all freaked out, pointed to a sign saying there were fines for killing wildlife in the park, which completely freaked me out. I grabbed the dead, limp duck and stuck it under my jacket.
We made a beeline to leave the park, and as I approached the gate with the guard...doesn't that damned duck become alive...it starts wiggling around in my jacket and making noises just as I walk past the shack...

Not sure I should doggie ping it though :~) I don't think there was a dog around or maybe he'd have run off the duck :~)
I guess the duck forgot to........duck.
What BS. I bet the duck took a dump on their heads, and that's why they beat it.
