THE VILLAGES -- Nearly two weeks after toddler Trenton Duckett disappeared, his 21-year-old mother shot and killed herself Friday afternoon in her grandparents' retirement-community home, authorities said.
Melinda Duckett died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said, but they provided few other details about her death.
Two-year-old Trenton had not been found by early today.

In the taped interview aired Friday night on the CNN Headline News program Nancy Grace, Melinda Duckett was interrogated on her whereabouts before and during Trenton's reported abduction.
She was asked whether she had undergone a lie-detector test, where she was before her son's disappearance and other specifics of the case but provided rambling replies that rarely answered the questions.
"Nancy Grace ate her up," said Jeanne Bragg, a close friend of the Ducketts' who watched Friday's program. "She asked her [Melinda] four times if she had taken a lie-detector test, and Melinda danced around the question."

Nancy Grace no matter how much plastic surgery you get, you'll still be a pig.
Supposedly the show was taped on Thu. at 11 am. On Friday, hours before CNN HN aired Nancy Grace, Duckett killed herself.
Not sure if CNN was aware of this and, if so, if they would have gone ahead and aired it...
wow
True.
I work a night job at a postal sorting center and our first break is at 8 pm (ET). They have a TV set in the break room which is always set to CNN HN, so guess what we get to watch...? (sigh)
I know if my child was missing, the last thing I would want to do is not be there for him when he came home. And all mothers hold out hope that their children are alive until the very end.
"Joshua Duckett told police he remained afraid that his wife would hurt the boy"
Or perhaps she grew up in a culture where shame and face are important and if you screw the pooch you seppuku. She probably didn't have a sword so did the gun route.
She was adopted and grew up in New York.
You are suggesting that she blew her brains out because she did something to her child.
I am suggesting that she blew her brains out because she felt that she had failed her child. I.e. someone took him when she wasn't fully engaged. I am also suggesting that while she was perhaps raised in westchester, she might, just might, identify with people from Japan who off themselves for various reasons, honor being one of them.
evil, but hilarious.
Did you even read the article? She was born in South Korea, not Japan.
Goodnight.
That is funny as heck.
