Hello. This is my first post. I don't know if people do introductions here but I'm going to do one now. Here is my brief manifesto that I thought-up in a couple minutes. It's rather hard to find non-extreme left wingers at university (particularly among my professors!), so I hope I can have some good discussions here and learn a few things.
---
Well there is no point denying it - I'm a small "l" libertarian. I find that my philosphy differs from some other "libertarians" in the areas of defense, religion, and education however.
I fully support defense/war against terrorism, secure borders, and involvement in Iraq. I am not particularly anti-Islam, but I am of course aware of its huge connection to international terrorism. The very nature of Islam makes it easy to be used as tool by sick people supported (financially and otherwise) by corrupt un-democratic states.
Illegal immigrants (yes, ILLEGAL is the key word here) hurt all of us that work for a living. I will welcome our southern neighbors that go through the process of naturalization and learning to communicate. Mexican and Latin culture is very enjoyable. Legal migrant workers know the illegals bring down their wages, they aren't stupid. If there is any one issue that our republican congress-people are failing on, its this one.
While not a practioner of a religion, I fully accept that America is "culturally" christian. I am not against monuments on federal land that, for example, contain crucifixes. I am fine with "in God we trust" on my money and "one nation under God" in the pledge of allegiance. I will support a christian canidate but have been almost insulted recently by some of the language used by certain political figures (I understand their base is more fundamental than me, but please don't tell me I can't be righteous without being christian). None the less, this is one libertarian that won't immediately call the more christian-conservative members of FR, "jesus freaks".
I support private-school-vouchers. Public education in its current state is a complete joke. If public-funded schools drop the ball then a good education of the child is what matters most. If public education can reform itself in the far (likely far far far) future and actually maintains a high graduation rate then I will likely give them my full support once again.
Abolish our state welfare system. It's a vicious cycle and everyone knows it. Liberal-types who would call me a monster for wanting to deny down-trotten people a helping hand need to wake up and look at the publicly run system. It exists as a machine to keep primarily minority races in the gutter, where liberals can exploit them and their votes ("its the republicans' fault your so poor"). I'm not some up-on-the-hill rich snob, I've lived on skid row and watched my neighbors drop their entire welfare checks on kegs of beer and cigarettes. Every month, same cycle. No one wins.
I am currently a student of design, but have background with web-scripting and code (php, perl, asp, etc.) I deeply enjoy my political science classes. Mostly, due to the fact that everyone automatically expects the tattoo'd scenester looking guy (me) to be anti-republican. They are often in for a shock ;) Yay academia!
Get to class...
yes sir ;)
Remarkable spelling. Thanks for playing!
Welcome!
Good lord I have no idea what's even going on anymore
Welcome to Free Republic, I hope you enjoy your stay here.
Just messin witchya
Welcome
Welcome to FR. There are quite a few young folks like you hanging around.
Man, I sound old when I say that.
You'll understand later.
Well, whatever- welcome, # 256,362... shoot, I can remember when we had 20,000 members and you had to dial the telephone and set the handset in a cradle to connect at 300 baud...
By the way, if you click on a Freeper's name, you'll get their home page. You should work on one, if you want people to know what you're about.
Of course, I have the best homepage in all of FR history. ;)
Welcome to FR - come on in, kick off your shoes, prop up your feet and chat a while. Don't mind the Viking Kitties - they patrol the borders, making sure no riff-raff gets in. From reading your intro, sounds like you'll fit right in.
See you around... :-)
