I was looking at your disney pictures. When I took Sarah to the princess ice capades the skaters had a lighted frame like this with Cinderella. The skaters were dressed in white and they moved like horses prancing. It was very pretty.

Back from our trail ride... Just a couple pictures this time, we're hungry, need to get cleaned up and head out for some lobster!

Cyn headed out leading for a little ways, anyway :~)

Riding through that newly logged area first..

A break time and a snack :~)

And then into the tall timber. The trail we went on is probably our favorite section of trail... Was a longer ride today than we've done yet this year, and the horses held up really well. Great times, I love riding with my husband :~)

but you can't ride horses in Alabama State Parks, that I know of,

Oh? I thought I had seen some trail riders in Bucks Pocket. But now that I'm thinking about it, perhaps it was on the trail (which is not part of the park) that runs next to the creek as it makes its way over to Lake Guntersville.

This is not quite the first time I'm erred in my information.

I just checked the web. According to Alapark - trails there is a six-mile horse trail at Bucks Pocket. That's where I got my idea you could ride horses in the state parks.

Thank you. I love horses. I was just crazy to get a horse as a kid. I would ask for one every time a gift-receiving occasion came up. Alas, no. I finally gave up and said, "well, just give me the tack and I'll imagine the rest." Dad still said no. He was afraid that an inch would soon become a mile.

I'm afraid I can't contribute much, if anything of my own experiences here. But I sure will enjoy reading y'all's experiences.

I wanted a horse as a kid too. When I was about 8 or 9 my dad took me to an auction and bought 2. I don't know where he learned to ride. I had never seen him on a horse before but we rode them home with some other people. It was all day. I had my first trail lesson. (Never gulp down a bunch of water when you are hot) Anyway, he stalled them at a feed store that had "miles of land" As an adult, it was probably more like 20 acres or so. Who knows. I might have even been on someones else's property! I would walk there to ride my horse. I had the darnest time with the saddle. I would get it on and park her by the fence and climb on. We would be off and the saddle would slide under her belly. I finally chunked it. I had trouble with the bridle too, so I just rode her with the halter and reins. We would fly. A short time later we moved, my parents broke up and the horses were sold. A couple of years ago I decided to give it another try. I'm hoping, somewhere is this grown, cautious, let's think about this first, body, the wild child still lives:')

Welcome to the thread! I always asked for a horse as a kid too, (What self respecting horse crazy kid didn't?) and to make up for it I worked and rode at two different barns. The first was a dressage barn, the second was a hunter/jumper barn, and I stayed with the hunter/jumper barn till I went off to college. My parents told me that I could get my own horse when I turned 18, (of my own accord of course) and on my 18th birthday I signed a lease on my first horse, Jimmy. (He's the bay you see on the Who's Who page) He was a cranky fellow, but we had a history together and got along just fine. I had to give up the lease for a couple of months while I was getting settled at school, and that's when they sold him. Now I'm out of school, but I still have to settle with taking lessons, but beggers can't be chosers! :-)

Registered Quarter Horse, preferably with Poco Bueno and/or Two Eyed Jack bloodlines, 4 to 8 years old, 14.2 to 15 hands, well muscled, good solid hoofs, blue roan or buckskin would be nice, bomb proof and ready to ride.

You don't want much do you? ;o)

I don't know a lot of QH breeders, but I'll ask around. My farrier would probably know who has good stock coz he travels all over the area. As best I can remember, there's a QH farm not too far from Browns Ferry. I know absolutely nothing about them, other than they have quite a few horses in the pasture out front and a sign on the road. They also have this cool metal sculpture of a horse, complete with saddle, made out of used horse shoes. If you want to check it out some afternoon after work, you'd just head west on Hwy 72 from Browns Ferry, going towards Elk River, and the farm will be on your right, before you get to the river. I think it's actually in Clements.

Great pictures Hair, as always! The last one is my favorite too. I never tire of looking at your tall timber and ferns.

Good Morning.

Hair, hmmmm lobster. We did go out for seafood in Florida. I ate a pound of crab legs! Hope you had a wonderful evening. Nice trail ride pictures, as usual.

My lawn mower was giving me grief last night. The grass is so high after not being mowed for over a week. The front is done. Hopefully, I can get the back done today if it runs ok. It did storm last night. Beautiful today, but chance of rain the rest of the week. It is going to be, catch up on all the chores. I still have not planted my flowers. The tomato plants didn't make it while we were gone. We had someone over to take care of things, and he watered, but they were just too big in those little pots and dried out too fast.

There are trails at Bucks Pocket, although I am not sure if they are on state property. I have been wanting to go there. Frog is right though, there are not any state parts I am aware of that you can ride in Alabama. Georgia has quite a few, we went to Hard Labor Creek last year, they have nice trails and a horse camp with stall rentals.

I forgot about Oak Mountain being a State Park, I have ridden there to and they also have horse rentals. Trails are not very long but it is pretty in there around the lake.
