Drinking Citations Issued at "Animal House" Actor's Restaurant

MEQUON, WI (AP) -- Students in this Milwaukee suburb celebrated graduation by revisiting the raucous revelry of "Animal House" at a restaurant and volleyball sandpit owned by an actor from the 1978 movie.

But, their celebration got them in a whole lot of toga trouble and ended when police were called and 18 teenagers were cited for underage drinking.

The police report on the incident said the party at the Libby Montana restaurant owned by Mark Metcalf, who played the campus ROTC commander in the movie, and in its adjacent Volley Dome, a metal building which houses three sand volleyball courts, was hosted by parents of a student from University School of Milwaukee.

Metcalf said the partygoers brought their own alcohol and were not served it by restaurant staff.

Police reports said that the toga-clad youngsters caused a disturbance in the parking lot several times during the May 27 party and the restaurant staff tried to get them back into the Volley Dome but finally called police.

Officers rounded up about 75 of the young people and lined them up along a wall of the Volley Dome for breath tests, according to a police report.

Police Sgt. Tony Restivo said his department has issued more than 30 underage drinking tickets at a time at parties held at private homes, but he said the 75 breath tests given at Libby Montana might set a record.

Those cited for underage drinking were 16 to 18 years old and came from a variety of Milwaukee-area communities.

"For almost all of them, it was the first time they were that close to a uniform and a weapon that wasn't pointed at a deer," Metcalf said.

was hosted by parents of a student from University School of Milwaukee.

This is just wrong and it happens all the time. These people have a deep seated need, rooted in their own insecurity, to be seen as cool friends rather than adult responsible parents.

They are lucky that nobody got hurt, no car wrecks etc. Idiots.

Diana, I don't know if you remember but about 10 years ago there was a high school graduation party at a home and the father supplied the beer and gave his blessing as to the party. Well, it seems that one young lady leaving the party drunk wrapped her car around a tree and was killed and the father was charged criminally for providing alcohol to underage children. I worked in the Milwaukee County courts and this man appeared in the court I happened to be working in and he looked like one whipped puppy. These parents that insist upon being "their children's best friend" are just plain crazy.

The days of going to a friend's and having a few underage beers is gone. Now they are into doing shots.

I loved him in "Animal House" and the Twisted Sister video.

I've seen Mark interviewed on a local show here and he seems like a pretty decent guy--funny too.

Ladies and gentlemen, l'll be brief.

The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules or...took a few liberties with our female party guests.

We did.

But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few sick, perverted individuals

If you do...shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system?

And if the whole fraternity system is guilty...then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general?

I put it to you, Greg.

Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society?

Well...you can do what you want to us...but we won't sit here...and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!
