Is Superman a deadbeat dad? How about a gay icon?
With the opening of director Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns" approximately two weeks away, plot details are beginning to leak onto the internet, including that the Man of Steel impregnated, and abandoned, Lois Lane before going on a five-year space mission.
In several fan reviews for the upcoming film, Ain't It Cool News is reporting that, when the Man of Steel returns from his outer space adventure, he finds his beloved Lois is a single mother, in a relationship with Perry White's son. However, the reviews note, the boy soon begins to display "powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men."
The news that the Last Son of Krypton has a son of his own is not sitting well with some fans and creators.
Former "Superman" writer-artist John Byrne, who revitalized the character in 1986, has blasted the film, stating:
I am sick to death of ...finding...that I, and those who think like me, have been wasting our time for the past twenty, thirty, forty years, working on superhero comics. None of the lessons we have tried to teach have sunk in. Superman can desert the Earth. Lois can have a bastard kid. Doesn't matter. Just make it fast and loud and shiny.
Besides issues with Superman's parenting philosophies, other controversies have surrounded the film, including issues regarding the sexuality of both the hero and the actor who plays him.
Several fan sites have speculated that director Singer, a well-known gay rights activist, cast his new Superman, with an unknown closeted gay actor in order to have the actor "come out" during publicity for the film, to provide gay children with a role model.
This rumor has, in part, fueled rumors that the character himself would be gay in the new film, prompting Warner Brothers, the film's producers to issue a denial stating that the character would not be a homosexual. However, the denial does not address the sexuality of the lead actor Brandon "BJ" Routh.
How this controversy affects the box office, if at all, will be revealed when the film opens June 28.
Interesting nickname for a gay actor....
Well alright now. Get down with your bad self, John.
"Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No! It's Super-Duper-Man And He Looks Just Fabulous!"
I just love that cape, don't you?
I've never seen Routh referred to as BJ. It's always Brandon.
Oh.. almost forgot-
Superman is an illegal alien. Secure our outer space borders now!
LOL. Queer eye for the caped guy.

Besides, Batman's so butch... |
If you look him up at IMDB.com, it notes that he is "Sometimes Credited As: B.J. Routh / B.J Routh / Brandon 'B.J.' Routh "
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0746125/
Well we already know the actor playing Lex Luthor is gay, Kevin Spacey.
MY EYES!!! MY EYES!!!
That has to be the most disturbing thing I've seen. At least today, anyway.
Whoa. Flood of unwanted mental imagery there.
I see you're expanding into "Crazy Semi-Naked People."
This film is reportedly a sequel to Richard Lester's "Superman II." In that film, you will recall, Clark lost his powers for a period of time and bedded Lois. I would assume the child stems from that incident.
At least Superman speaks English and stands for truth, justice, and the AMERICAN way.
Not the Superman I remember.
All superheroes of the past are now gay? Oh that will play...
Another film fiasco that will sink like a stone...
They couldn't pay me enough to go see this pervert crap.
Oh, well then, that WOULD work. Or would it? In that depowered state, would the ...eh...super seed...still be able to pass on the Kyrptonian traits? Is human and Kyrptonian DNA compatable? Would the boy only be "half powered"?
So many questions...

No, but you're giving me an idea... |
P.S. I think Jimmy Olsen knocked up Lois Lane. I always wondered about those two...
I don't really care. It just bugs me that they can't leave what were, basically, childrens lit characters well enough alone.
