Maybe a helmet isn't such a bad idea after all.

Someone (Jim Quinn) who has ridden bikes for 40 years, and I trust him, suggested on his radio show for the past days, that if Ben had had on one of those full helmets with the face protection (the thing that looks like a big bird) he could have hit that window, his head could have snapped back very quickly, and he could be a quadriplegic today. So, that's just one thing to think of.

But..... if I ever got on a motorcycle, I'd wear a helmet.

Helmets are good things. I saw two guys die in Italy, when a helmet would have saved either of them. One Italian was cruising about 5-7 mph on a Vespa and hit a small rock and fell into a concrete drainage duct that was about 2 feet deep. His head hit a golf ball sized rock and it dented his skull enough to kill him. Another guy was being stupid on a Harley. He missed a corner, because of loose gravel, and ran into a chain-link fence at about 40 mph. His head contacted one of the poles, which was small enough to flex and get pushed out of the ground and it caused him brain damage, but little else (rest of body scraped but nothing else broken). Both died and it seems pretty obvious that both would be alive if they had worn helmets.

Some folks would talk about the "what ifs" and claim a helmet would cause death or injury where not wearing one would have left the person OK, but those are the aberrations and not the rule - many more are saved from safety gear than get killed because of it.

...and according the the MSM, this will resurrect the helmet law controversy especially in PA.
