Country trio the DIXIE CHICKS have been forced to scrap an upcoming show in Memphis, Tennessee, because locals don't want to see the girls live.
It seems Memphis music fans still haven't forgiven the WIDE OPEN SPACES hitmakers' comments about US President GEORGE W BUSH in 2003.
Singer NATALIE MAINES became a target for Republicans and Bush fans after she declared she was ashamed to come from the same state (Texas) as the President during a concert in London.
Her bandmates were then ostracised for supporting their outspoken singer, and the group's music was banned from some US country music radio stations and their records trampled underfoot at public protests.
And, even though the Chicks have scored a number one album in America with their new release, TAKING THE LONG WAY, it seems many former fans refuse to forgive them.
The trio pulled the September (06) show in Memphis due to poor ticket sales and it looks as if the same fate could befall concerts in Oklahoma City and Houston, Texas. Tickets for both arena shows are failing to sell. Ironically, the trio landed the top-grossing country tour of 2003 when they last performed across America - after the comments made in London.
Bush is having a REAL good day.
Dixies who?
The mouth that roared.
I feel so sorry for them ... NOT!
zarqawi is tits up and the ditzy chitz can't sell tickets in Tennessee. What a banner day!
Wow, PR firms are getting really creative these days.
If they can't generate enough publicity using normal channels, they release a press release like this and internet message boards light up spreading the group's schedule, etc.
Their fans will be at the Al Gore movie instead (there are only so many entertainment dollars to go around...)
Oh well. They did say that they'd rather have a smaller group of fans who "get it". I guess they got their wish.
they cancelled indianapolis, too
Ha. Ready to make nice yet there, Nat?
They can always do a Cindy Sheehan benefit show.

Excellent!
The country is going to hell in a handbasket....for the dems anyway.
"Bush is having a REAL good day"
He sure is, and so am I. :)
Articles about not selling out shows are VERY bad publicity. Spread it far and wide. BTW, this is not the only date being sh*tcanned.
Guess they couldn't talk Soros into buying up all the tickets. ;)
Cindy would draw a bigger crowd than they would at this point.
Where's the obligatory Monty Python foot descending on the chick strips?
Today's news just gets better and better.
