The White Sox-Cubs brawl that we enjoyed recently was certainly an interesting one.

Two heated intra-city rivals coming to blows on the diamond, punches thrown, punches landed, fan bases invigorated, ejections and controversy — all the stuff of a great baseball scuffle. However, as engaging as it was it's not even close to being among the greatest of "basebrawls." So in honor of the recent North Side-South Side bloodlust, let's take a look at greatest baseball fights in history.

I took my son to see a Dodgers/Mariners game a few years ago at Dodger Stadium that ended up in a full field team brawl. Sounds like baseball to me!

That one was a classic. The Baltimore-NYY in 1998 was a good one too.

Texas Rangers v Cleveland Indians (mid 70s) they had a nasty fight in Arlington, two weeks later the Rangers were in Cleveland, they had a nickle beer night and all hell broke lose - baseball officially ended nickle beer night after that.

If I remember correctly there was a bench-clearing brawl many years ago with the Chicago Cubs and some other team, and the Cubs left fielder Dave Kingman threw a punch at the opposing player, missed, and injured his shoulder or his back or something. That may not be one of baseball's best brawls but it was definitely a Cubs-type of brawl with a Cub's kind of outcome.

Best one was in 1976(?)... Yanks/Sox. Nettles broke Bill Lee's collarbone... sweet.

Hit em low Farnsworth.

I think there were 9 suspensions of various lengths handed out for that one.

I loved it, Nolan bulldogged him like a steer.

There used to be a poster of the former White Sox pitcher Bart Johnson in an on field fist fight. He was unloading a right hand on sombody and the title of the poster was "The Fighting White Sox".

Farnsworth and Paul Wilson can hardly be considered a great 'fight', but it was a great takedown.

I once talked to a guy who was in Arlington on business one summer. He went to a Rangers game. Had a dog, a few beers watched Nolan pitch. When he was pulled he left. This guy went solely to see one of hte great pitchers of the game throw.

LOL

that was a GREAT double leg takedown too LOL

Farnsworth is GOOD at fighting. He'd be a hell of a hockey player too.

And I think he's the ONLY pitcher to ever charge the batter's box
